Does anyone have an efficient way to learn Japanese?

Okay I've been wanting to learn Japanese for a while but I need help with I should use. I can't go live in japan. I don't have that much money so free would be preferable. My school does not offer any Japanese classes. I don't have any Japanese friends. Also I don't mind spending time I don't need the quickest route.

If you want to wing Japanese or Korean, you're going to hit a major roadblock when time comes to Kanji characters. Learning Chinese not only helps you memorize Kanji, but you learn an entirely new language.

Try looking for some classes in rec centres, community colleges, etc. Some might be offering it from your classifieds section in your newspaper. You just have to look around. If you live in a city where they offer city-sponsored extra-cur. activities, check their listings.
