Hello tech people of Basil, I am in the market for a new computer. No suggestions please, I have my mind set on one desktop and one laptop around the same price range. The question is, which should I get? Since the computers are over $1,000, I'm going to be using them for 3-4 years, without getting a new one. I like how desktops are easy to upgrade and are basically futureproof if you buy the right parts. Laptops are portable, which is a feature I MIGHT need in a few years, but not now. I have a netbook that I'm totally fine with. Please Vote!

Desktop's will be faster, its all preference on what YOU want, I know ALIENWARE laptops, ARE able to be upgraded, the only problem is finding a vendor that sells the laptop GPU's/CPU's

I dislike everything about them, from the price to the bulkiness of them.

well if you're getting a different brand laptop, with an I7 or high end video card, expect for it to get pretty warm as well, the main thing that is nice about how big they are, is the fact that they cool better, and are easily upgradable/cleanable, if you're looking to be able to upgrade, I'd say go with a desktop, I personally am more of a laptop fan though

honestly, If i were posed to that questioin, it depends on what im doing with the computer. if im doing heavy gaming, then of course the desktop but if your playing more lighter games like maplestory or poptag which is less strenuous is graphics, a laptop should be fine

If you don't need a laptop for the portability right now and won't need it for a few years, then I would just get a desktop then.

Desktop, because the netbook will make a new laptop redundant at the cost of gaming potential for your money.

BobRGiven your projected use, I agree with all- desktop is the way to go. By the time you need a laptop, you'll be feeling the need for an upgrade, and that's essentially impossible with a laptop. Might as well get the best for your needs, at the time you need it.
