My parents are to cheap to buy me new pc or parts for a new pc so I was going to ask them to buy me some cheap parts. My motherboard can handle pentium 4 at max I'm probably going to overclock it, so does anyone know where I can buy it in Canada?

Probably isn't worth the hassle/price. Its better off if you save up some money for a budget build ranging from $300-$400.

You need to find out a bit more info about your motherboard before you can order an upgrade CPU. You'll need to know the Socket TYPE it has, so you can get one that fits, and you need to know what it is exactly that you have now, so you can be sure of getting one that's higher spec than you already have. After that, I see almost 5,000 listings on eBay (the us site, but many of the sellers will ship to the US. You can also search on eBay.ca and specify Canadian sellers only, if you'd prefer to do it that way), so you'll have a lot of choices, (and a lot of digging to do). Most Pentium 4 systems used "Socket 478", but there are a few other styles you might run into, so be sure to check it. If it's a home-built computer, you should either already know what model number the motherboard is, or can fairly easily find out by inspecting the actual motherboard with a bright flashlight. If it's a commercially manufactured one, like a Dell, or HP, you can look on their website in the "Support" section for the technical specifications of EXACTLY your computer model (Name, and Model Number), like "Dimension X-85C" or whatever. If they have the motherboard listed, you can either look up its specs or sometimes they may have a photograph that will help identify the socket if nothing else tells. (Another way of course would be to just take a chance on it being the more standard Socket 478, which it most likely is, and just buy that type of CPU and hope it fits. It should be easy to tell immediately if the new one matches the old one as far as size and arrangement of the pins, and if it will fit the socket you have.) Also, another complication- the type of CORE the CPU uses may determine what motherboards it can be used with. Some earlier motherboards could only support the "Northwood Core" CPUs, which would mean this chip won't work. You'd have to find that out before ordering any upgrade to be sure it would work. As an example, I see a listing for a 3.2 Ghz, 1MB cache, 800Mhz FSB, Prescott Core socket 478 (used) for $39.95, on "Buy it Now" which means you don't have to bid against anyone, it's just like ordering it from a store. Shipping to Canada is $10.60, but he'll include the original Intel heatsink and fan for shipping of $28.50, your choice. The seller also indicates he'll answer questions (BEFORE the sale!) about whether this chip is compatible with specific motherboards. This was just a listing that popped up near the top of the list because it was newer. You should of course search or browse through the listings to find what you want at the lowest cost, and from a seller that looks trustworthy. In this case you have many choices. As far as the "you're better off just buying a new computer" comments, yes that's probably true- however the eBay prices on these P4 chips range (depending of course on their specs) from 99 CENTS (with free shipping) on up. It's a little hard to replace the entire computer for 99 cents. Also, I agree that depending on how much
