Guy claming to be from Microsoft called me

So yesterday night, the phone rang and I picked up. The guy said he was from microsoft and told me that there were numerous reports that my computer was having problems He told me to start Run Then he told me to type in something, I dont remember because I didnt exactly trust him I then started to ask him "How do I know you're from Microsoft? I need proof" Then he said "Sir, I assure you I am from Microsoft" Then I closed the phone on him o.o The weird part is, there have been some problems with my computer lately. I've noticed the graphics on the Paint icon and msn icon sometimes turn into bad quality. He said there may have been an infection that an anti-virus couldnt pick up Could this just be a coincidence or should I be worried?

You're screwed. I mean, the guy clearly said he was from Microsoft, and you hang up on him? You have no idea how powerful Microsoft is. Of course they monitor everyone's computer for viruses that their antivirus programs can't pick up. He was only trying to help you, but now you've made him mad. He's probably going to delete your computer now. I mean it. Literally delete the computer. Like, there won't even be a computer there anymore. It will have been physically deleted from the universe. Microsoft can actually do this. And they will do this. It is useless to resist.

i cant really remember what he told me to type because of , well, his indian accent -.- not trying to be racist but i couldnt understand what he told me to type! it took me a while to understand he was from microsoft heh low im frum mai cuh low suft im serious but if this is real i could take in my computer to someplace to get a checkup right? like say staples? o.o

Run an antivirus scan or something? Or take a screenshot of your problem and show it to us (press the print screen button, open Microsoft Paint, press Ctrl+V, save it as an image, and upload it onto an image upload site (Photobucket, imgur, etc.).

it could be a RAT on your computer and the guy went through all your information and got your phone number. Then he started messing with your computer making you think its really microsoft knowing that you have problems

You did the right thing by hanging up on him. Microsoft would never be calling individual people anyway. Next time tell him to send you an e-mail from the regular Microsoft e-mail address (which you can check) explaining what it's all about. Last week I had a call from a woman who said she was with Bank of America and she needed to verify personal information about me so they could update their records. I said sure- send me a letter on BoA letterhead with your questions. Guess what? Nothing ever arrived.

Common con. Basically he uses some sort of generalization to get your attention to believe and once you do, its all she wrote. If it ever happens again, tell him youre using OS X, hate Windows, and then see what he says

It's most likely a scam.
