Will I/L basically become useless almost after big bang? There's just about as many f/p weak monsters as there are i/l weak, they also have a mob skill in 2nd job now, they level faster because of poison, they have a lot higher DPM, and now they can freeze at will (paralyze but almost the same). And yes, I know a lot of these things were true right when f/p came out, but still, what's the point of a i/l?

the actual elemental aspect instead of the damage? and I strongly dislike how tons of people look towards 4th job skills in their decision making process. like paralyze...seriously? I know many people leech to 120 in a week but still... and if you really cared about DPM, you wouldn't have picked a magician. with that I answer: to each his own.

I just like the prospect of using ICE and LIGHTNING over fire and poison... Think about it, I would rather be on fire or poisoned than frozen or struck by lightning... unless i was unfrozen in the future :P

I don't see the point of most people looking for damge instead of what they like.

Because my I/L is more fun to play than my F/P? And with the changes to how accuracy works in the Big Bang patch, poison training may not be all that great anymore.

I guess now it's for uniqueness... To be honest, I used to feel proud to be an F/P mage. One of the few. But then, I guess after the balance patch and with the ring event, there became so many F/P's that it kind of sickens me. There's no real class pride anymore. I made this character maybe 3 years ago, and now I don't want to be stuck in the "oh you just made an F/P to level fast" bandwagon. I mean, mist isn't even my main skill! I guess I'm yet unique in that I am an explosion mage, but still. I remember seeing I/L's all the time; now they seem few and far between. I chose to be an F/P for the fire element alone, not for anything else (damage, poison, etc.). I guess that elemental appeal is all the I/L's have left; all the level and damage hoes are gonna go F/P if they want a mage. /rant

Well apparently we become efficient attackers after the BigBang patch...there's also the fact that you can freeze mobs or fry them with lightning?

I made three different Ice Mages before this one. Why? I screwed up the first three times. I simply love Ice and magic in every game; they're my favorite things to use. Lightning comes a close third (to Water) in terms of element usage.

If you find them fun, if you like the Ice and Lightning elements. I'm going to keep my I/L because it's fun to play him and I'm not willing to invest anymore time training another character. I can understand what the TS is saying though. I don't see anything wrong with wanting your class to be competitive, especially after a massive balance patch like this. That was the whole point of the balance patch was it not? To equalise the classes as much as possible? At first F/Ps seemed to have been shafted, now it's I/L. Though, someone said a while ago that the it's the actual amount of funding and the connections you have that will ultimately be the most important thing. Despite all this balancing, that has always been true of this game.

I enjoy playing my nightlord even if it's a pretty popular class. So yeah, I get how being unique is cool, but maybe you shouldn't base your whole playing experience on being unique. *tries not to sound super judgemental* But yeah, I/l mages are my 3rd favorite class (after the two thieves). No joke, I'm not just saying that because this is a mage thread, but because telecasting cl with a giant ifrit following you is pretty sweet. Not to mention mages have great movement speed. So what if f/ps outdamage them? I/ls never really outdamaged people in the first place. And they aren't better in EVERY aspect, not at all.
