Does antivirus software attract viruses

My friend told me that anti virus software can attract viruses (particularly the freeware kinds.) Is this actually true? I only rely on the free versions of avast! and AVG as my virus protection.

Each of those legit AV companies also have paid versions of their AV. So why would they put their business at risk by attracting malicious files into your computer? Their main purpose to to prevent them from going into your computer - not invite them. Also, don't have more than one AV on your system at a time.

No, that is completely incorrect. Having an antivirus will not attract viruses. However there are several "fake" antiviruses out there that may, in a sense, attract viruses. Another thing, don't run two anti-viruses at the same time. Having one active is already completely fine. Any more than one, and that may create problems.
