Final Build :P NEED HELP! This build is good. However its reaching to $1700. And its a little over my budget. I want to go back to i7 860 but that would mean switching the MB to a 1566. However I heard most of them arent good. Anyone know a good one? Case: Antec Nine Hundred Two Black Steel ATX = $108 Disc Drive: LITE-ON Black Optical Drive CPU: Intel Core i7 930 = $289.99 ~Debating If I Should Go i7 860 w/ 1566 MB and Save $120~ Cooling: CORSAIR Cooling Hydro Series = $80 <--- To expensive, Anyone got one in mind? MOBO: ASUS P6X58D 1366 <--- Planing on Changing back to 1566. Anyone got a good 1566 MB in mind for a i7 860? Switch to a cheap amd build that wont bottleneck the 5870 and upgrade to sandy bridge later. I heard once Intels sandy bridge comes out socket 1366 and 1156 are pretty much gone/dead apparently dunno if thats true though.

Unless you plan on Xfiring later, I would save the $120. As far "theyre not good", whats not good about them? I would also drop the H50. I would then get a 2x2GB memory set. And yes, Sandy Bridge will require a new socket.

Really? Its BEEN known that Sandy Bridge would require a new socket. Hell, I knew that back when Misacorp used to post often in this section.

Well, judging from the comments above me, I think your build is quite pricey and will get outdated around the final quarter of this year. If I were you, I'd honestly take noobpwnage's advice on just building a nice AMD rig (assuming the AM3 socket will continue being used), which is budget friendly, and enough to get your gaming needs and other work done. The H50 is not necessary, unless you intend to do some heavy overclocking. The 5870 is great, but I believe the 5850 can accomplish your tasks just as well for a much friendlier price, especially during a sale. If I were you, I'd scrap the Intel idea, unless you're willing to wait for Sandy Bridge, but that's just me. Best of luck building! :D

They are right, what you get with the i7 is just name. Its an overpriced CPU and you can find Cheaper ones that do the same work. I suggest switching to AMD for budget. As for memory, unless your dual booting OS' and running 10 programs at the same time, 6 GB of RAM is great, with 4 GB you can get your everyday gaming and all the other things you need done fine. About your cooling, trust me, it may seem like its a lot, but its money well spent. I regret not spending money on my first PC and my motherboard overheated and melted.. Not literally, but it fried. So i suggest that you keep that in.

You two got me twisted. Even if 'Dozer is compatible on the AM3 socket, it will likely be weaker than on its native socket ( presumably AM3+ ), seeing as its no longer a rehashed K8/K10; its completely redesigned. So even if it is backwards compatible, dont expect it to retain all of its features. . i7 wont be "outdated" come Sandy Bridge either, it simply wont be the end all be all as it now. It WILL still be powerful, and WILL still be far more than most users need. That said, I still wouldnt get it, and no, I would not pick up AMD at the moment either And "DaMan's" pretty much wrong in every line of his post...jus' sayin'

Get a Phenom x6 Black edition and an Asus mobo with usb 3.0 and sata 3 interface :D get 2 500 gig hd? and set up in raid 0 if you want fast performance :D

Lol someone needs cooling advice... http://frostytech.com The most badass fansink you can get is the $80-90 Noctua NH-D14 (cheaper on Amazon than Newegg. Has free shipping), which outperforms the H50 even with the fan speeds turned down. You can also pick from the following list based on how much you want to spend $60: Thermaltake Frio - Awesome cooler, and can actually beat the NH-D14, but the fans are noticeably louder $40: Xigmatek Dark Knight or its non-LED counterparts - A long time favorite of the air-cooled community until Prolimatech rolled out the more expensive Megahelms (do not buy the Megahelms!)
