What is wrong with my local disk?

my computer's local disk has a total of 18.6 gigs of disk space but only 5.53 left but every time i delete something on it that i dont use the free space goes down even more like my free space was 5.55gigs so i deleted all my history it went down to 5.53 gigs what is wrong with it or why is this happening?

When you "delete" something from your hard disk Windows doesn't REALLY delete it, but instead moves it to a temporary holding area called "The Recycle Bin", just in case you change your mind and want the file back again, so it doesn't free up the space you deleted right away. If you're sure you're not going to want it again ever, after deleting it you should RIGHT-click on the Recycle Bin icon and select "Empty the Recycle Bin". This will PERMANENTLY delete the entire contents of the Recycle Bin from your hard disk and reclaim the space. You can also hold down the SHIFT key when you press Delete, and it will bypass the whole "Recycle Bin" process and just PERMANENTLY delete whatever is is immediately. Be careful though if you use that, because there is no (easy) way to get something back if you accidentally (permanently) delete the wrong thing. Also, you should do a "Disk Cleanup" process now and then (like once a week or so) to keep old useless stuff from building up on your hard drive especially if you have a small drive to begin with- Open "My Computer" and RIGHT click on "Local disk C:", then select "Properties". Then click the "Disk Cleanup" button below the "pie chart", and let it scan the hard drive for old "Temporary" files, log files and other useless stuff, including emptying the Recycle Bin. When it comes back with a report of how much it can delete, just check all the boxes and tell it to go ahead and clean up the hard drive.
