Laptop CPQ on but external monitor running?

Is this okay to do ? Alright so, I bought a new laptop 2 weeks ago and I literally just switched to an external monitor. I switched off my laptop's monitor. Now, I'm wondering. I have an FM 5 spot and I really don't wanna give it in just because I have to turn off my laptop. Can anyone answer this for me? I have two questions. 1) Is it alright to keep my laptop's CPU running for another 9 hours ish, but have the monitor off (it is plugged in, too). Will it overheat and damage internal parts? It's been on for 12 hours already. 2) Is there a way to put my comp to hibernate/sleep/lock it without disconnecting from the internet? It d/cs but the modem is still on (and working) and this irks me. EDIT: &lol at my title fail.

1- Yes, it should be OK to do this... it shouldn't hurt a laptop to leave it on, AS LONG AS it's fairly well cooled- that is, not on a fuzzy blanket blocking all the air vents, or covered with yesterday's jeans and t-shirt. It wouldn't hurt to elevate it on something to let air circulate around it either. (You can buy a "laptop stand" just for that purpose, some of them even come with a fan or two to blow air on the bottom of the computer to keep it cooler.) After it's been on for a while feel the bottom of the case and see if it feels excessively warm. 2- No... both hibernate and sleep mode will STOP whatever is running on the computer and usually turn off the network connection to save power. That means MapleStory (if that's what is running) will stop, and you'll be disconnected from the Internet. It'll come back on pretty quickly again when you "wake it up", but it won't continue running while sleeping/hibernating, so you WILL lose a regular store permit spot.
