The Jetway J7F5M1G5D-VDE MINI-ITX VIA C7 at my local computer store is on sale for $60. I like it cause of the fact it is small, and use very little power. BUT will i be downgrading my server? I have a old p4 1.9ghz at home which is mainly for BT, file storage (for within and outside of my network) I see this is Gigabit too which will improve file transfer speed inside my home because my old mobo doesnt have gigabit. BUT will it slow down what i am currently doing with the computer with this weak CPU? Im running windows xp currently. Probably upgrading to windows home server in future. Thank you!

azn011I honestly see no reason in switching motherboards, giving your situation. There is no performance gain, maybe a few extra features and ports. The gigabit LAN would not help at all, unless your Internet connection is rated for more than 100Mbps. (minus a few)

gigabit LAN helps as i move files to and from other computers in the home network. File transfer will be faster. (all my other hardware is rated at gigabit). I am not hoping for any performance gain in CPU. Im just wondering if the the VIA C7-1.5G CPU will match up to the things that my old P4 does. Such at BT or possible future OS upgrade such as Windows Home server.

azn011It should work pretty well as a low-power home server system. Unless you already load up your old P4 already, I would expect the VIA C7 to be able to do the same.

What do you mean by loading up my P4?

azn011If your P4 is able to perform all its tasks smoothly and efficiently already, then the VIA's ability to perform these same tasks wouldn't be too far off from what the P4 could do.
