The MTS Scam - For Dummies

If you already know about this scam, please do not say dumb things like, "old news" or "everyone knows about that already," because it seems like people are still falling for this MTS scam. I'm assuming it's the same Scanian executing these scams, since this "14 att PAC" always shows up when the victims cry out for help. The Scam So here's my story. I had just placed my 148 m.att Elemental Wand 5 in the MTS for a ridiculous amount of NX to wait for offers. To my surprise, as soon as I exited the MTS, I received a whisper: http://i883.photobucket.com/albums/ac40/thotsss/Maple0386.jpg The guy claims to have a 14 att PAC in Scania because some family member or another had given it to him. However, he claims his main is in Bellocan and his IGN is CasusX3. I had already heard about the MTS scams by Jaffedy, so I was wary of this suspicious 14 att PAC. But the thing is, he offered to MTS the PAC over to Windia: http://i883.photobucket.com/albums/ac40/thotsss/Maple0387.jpg After "realizing" this could not be done, he offered to pay me 25k NX and a 13 att HAMMERED PAC. He said that if I transferred my wand over to Scania and showed it to him, he would pay for me to transfer a character back to Windia with the PAC BEFORE we executed the trade. Now, this was quite an interesting offer. It seemed legitimate at the time. I told him I didn't really want to make a character in Scania, and that once my other friend got on, I could ask him to use his Scanian character. Suddenly, he had an "idea" and told me to make a CYGNUS character named "XerifMule5" because his PAC was on a Cygnus mule, and we would be able to meet right away: http://i883.photobucket.com/albums/ac40/thotsss/Maple0388.jpg To be safe, I created both XerifMule5 and XerifMuie5. I had never before used the MTS Wanted section, so the first time I put up the trade, I messed up and did not insert a message into my trade. I told him this, and he was very nice about it and told me to go back to Scania and redo it. However, during this time, I had been browsing the Wanted section on Xerif and noticed something very interesting: Right after I had placed the Wanted trade up, a user named VarsityPoawp began to spam trades: http://i883.photobucket.com/albums/ac40/thotsss/MTSScam1.png However, after a few seconds, he realized that I had placed the trade up wrong, and all of the VarsityPoawp trades above mine disappeared: http://i883.photobucket.com/albums/ac40/thotsss/MTSScam2.png Thus, I went back to my mule and set up the Wanted trade the right way, now with very little hope that this offer was legitimate. After setting up the trade, I went back to my Windian character and checked out the wanted section: http://i883.photobucket.com/albums/ac40/thotsss/MTSScam3.png Because I had taken XerifMuie5 already, he created a similar "xeirfmule5." These two IGNs actually look quite similar if you're in a hurry. Additionally, the two trades below mine and this imposter's are both 52 and 1. I logged off. Conclusion I

What is elemental wand 5 for? if it's for a F/P I may offer w/e for it. I do have 240k nx to spend on w/es edit - preemptive means something done to prevent something before it happens. I believe

It's a fire element wand for lukless 130+s. :P Also, in the second-to-last screenshot, there's someone named tomashmule1 with a 1 meso Spec Goggle. Must be another potential victim. Edit: @ Above, the minimum you have to pay for wanted is 501 NX. Luckily I had 800 NX on my account. Basically you put in 501 NX as a reserve and it shows up as 1 meso because the seller would only get 1 meso. It's like a reverse MTS tax.
