Can anyone help me solve this lag problem?

When it happened: I've been lagging ever since...last summer of 2009 if I recall... And my lag-free period was from 2006~2008... lol *PS: I do not lag at all playing any other mmorpgs or any other sort of games that requires internet >.<* Symptoms for my lag: There�s like a second or 2 delay between every my attack interval And sometimes right when I log on, everything just freezes, then I dc after 1~3mins after... And there are times it takes 1 second to kill a monster, but takes 1min+ for it to die... *I also lag when I log in during the times when less populated (for instance: midnight to 5 am PST during weekdays)* What I tried to do to prevent it: I have tried lowering my game graphics to the lowest, but it doesn�t seem to work I tried closing every program that I'm not really using while running maple and I still lag >< And I have resorted to my final solution: reinstalling it But it didn�t change one bit, I still lag... >.< When I run maplestory, I make sure my CPU usage is below 20%, and memory stayed below 1GB / 4GB (ms usually takes about 300~500mb of memory) And I use AVG & Anti-Malware for my anti-virus programs (yes I do have them open 24/7 and I update them daily + C:/nexon is in my exception list) *No I'm not uploading or downloading stuff while running maple* Here are my computer specs: (hope these are helpful) Windows XP - SP3 Intel quad core CPU 3.2 GHz 4 GB RAM 350 GB hard drive + 1.44 MHz Graphic card: NVIDIA GeForce 9800 Gx (updated on March 4, 2010) Using DirectX 9 (installed the most recent components) And my internet connection speed is approximately: Download speed: 12.86 mbps Upload speed: 2.05 mbps And I live about 1hr drive to Los Angeles, CA And my ping on maplestory is at the average of 27ms Are there any tricks or something that you guys do to prevent lags? *Edit: I included the info that I answered previously for people who comes in the near future and does not wish to read the comments*

i scan & defrag my comp weekly, sometimes every other day it still doesnt show any signs of the game running smoothly >.<

1st of all - grats on actually providing useful info to start assessing your issue. . . now lets see This one is a bit puzzling since your PC & internet specs are more than fine, so I doubt either are the cause of your lag. Do you lag when playing any other games ? Do you lag when youre trying to watch a video on youtube ? You said youve been lagging since who knows when .... but for how long ? Have you (ever) played maple & (not) lagged ? If yes, what has changed since then ? Installed anything new ? If you can answer those questions maybe I can offer some suggestions, but looking at your specs, its hard to imagine what is causing the lag. Also - could you do another speed test & post your 'ping' ? At this point the only thing I could reccommend would be to reinstall MS. There might be something wrong with your client. But if you could give me abit more info, maybe something will come to mind.

I do not lag at all playing any other mmorpgs or any sort of games that requires internet >.< My video buffer speed is fast, so it has nvr happened to me lagging since last summer if i recall... Yes, my lag-free period was from 2006~2008... lol my ping on ms is about...27ms

Its not your computer, its probably the Nexon servers are lagging, alot of people lagging in Combat arm also (a Nexon game).

You seem to take good care of your system so you may have already done this, but you should run an updated scan with an anti-Malware program and an anti-virus, if you haven't already done so. The unwanted programs could potentially mess up some things and not others. If you have an anti-virus that is constantly running, you may need to disable it while playing Maple, it could lag Maple as it may check the files being sent back and forth to the game constantly. Open your task manager and see how many processes you have running in the background. A lot of programs preload on computer start up and just eat away at memory. Having Adobe or Word preloaded is great if you constantly use them, but having them preload if you aren't using them all the time is just a waste. I hope this helps or gives you some ideas.

There are 2 types of lag. If maple would be choppy and freeze completely from time to time, then it would be your computers fault (too little ram, weak cpu etc.). If monsters die 5 seconds after their HP has been reduced to 0, then its your connection that is lagging. Are you uploading/downloading stuff while playing maple? Maybe some programs that are running are doing that so that you dont even know it.

if i was uploadind / downloading stuff, there would be spikes been shown in my task manager network section >.< + i close all the programs that im not using at all if it was something important i had to do, i would do that first, before running maple i think i have sufficient amount of ram & cpu to run maple ._.

Yeah, I expected you'd already have taken care of most of that. Did you add the Hack Shield / Game Guard, whatever its called to your exceptions as well? I'm not likely to think of anything else without some sleep. Best of luck.
