I'm currently doing my homework, but I just can't seem to figure this out, please help me. Determine a so that the slope of the line containing this pair of points are the given value (-2,3 a ) , (4, a ) m = -5/12

Assuming you want the slope to be -5/12 and using the points (-2,3a) and (4,a) Slope: (3a - a)/(-2-4) You want that to equal -5/12, so: (3a - a)/(-2-4) = -5/12 Solve for a: 2a/-6 = -5/12 -a/3 = -5/12 a = 1.25
