Your opinion on this Laptop!

I'm getting a new laptop in about 3-4 weeks and I was wondering which one I should get. The max price is $700, and this is pretty much the best one I could find: http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?sort=2a&products_id=48475 I can only purchase from that site and Msy.com, so what do you guys think? I'd like to use it for General gaming, school work and a bit of video editting maybe. The processor and ram and pretty decent, actually really decent but the graphics card is a bit of a turn down, but all the laptops on there have fail graphics. So what do you guys think, should I buy this one, or is there a better one I could get on that site?

[/quote] Honestly, you can either have good specs with crap graphics or decent specs with decent graphics. Honestly I'd find something with 256/512 Dedicated and call it a day, provided you have at least a dual-core 1.9GHz Processor with at least 2-3GB or ram (unless you're willing to purchase more RAM). That laptop would be nice for homework and general usage, but your graphics are going to make your life a living hell for gaming or video editing. My computer is a dual-core 2.4GHz with 4GB of RAM - Much the same as your one. However I have a 512MB Dedicated HD graphics card. Specs aren't overly amazing for a laptop. But that graphics card makes doing ANYTHING from video editing, recording, gaming, an absolute BREEZE.

Well, I don't exactly have too much to chose from, as you guys don't live in Melbourne and can't show me good computer stores. CentreCom is the only decent store I know that has a website, you can try and chose a decent laptop from there for me, if possible.

The intel Core i5 is designed to work With Shared graphics like the onboard GMA card you'd have, to produce good gaming results. Of course it won't ever play games like crysis on high graphics, but combat arms will be a piece of cake. Get ready for Major maple dc and lag though, all the way until they decide to make it fully compatible. All in all, a good price for a nice machine.

Honestly, your best bet is just to go into your major electronics stores and take a good look. Really look at the computers, don't listen to the sales people unless you ask a specific question like 'Is RAM for this particular model available'. Take notes, come home, narrow down your selections. that's what I did. Two years on, my computer is still a beauty, the price is still good, and I'm still loving it.

The problem is though I have a budget of $700, and what I'm trying to say is, look at how much more I'd have to pay to get a better graphics card, with all of specs exactly the same. http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?sort=2a&products_id=47913

I mean, realistically, what you're describing suggests the processor and RAM are slightly overkill for what you need / want. I would MUCH rather sacrifice them to a degree to get a nice graphics card. Like I said, mine has no issues running high-res games at all - That's due to the graphics card. The processor plays a part in it, but it's just a core2Duo @ 2.4GHz. It's nothing special. It's worth downgrading your processor a little for a better graphics card.

[/quote] Sorry, I got that part, didn't mean to make you repeat yourself. My problem though, is the fact that no other computer store will have a laptop with a better graphics card (regardless of other specs) for under $700. I just doubt it.

Eursurshkigal When the computer is build it either comes with intel of amd cpu's. Most of the time with laptops around that price range that have a Intel cpu come with Intel graphics which arent that special, and i have come to see that amd tend to get other gpu's from companies like radeon ect. which are a bit better. It pretty much comes down to what you want. If you want more bang for the buck go amd.

Lol @Deapswift. You know why radeons come with AMDs? Because radeon is just one of amd's brands not a company. I agree with your post, I just thought it was funny that you seperated AMD and ATI. ATI, owned by AMD now disolving, makes the radeons you were talking about. Soon, though, they will be AMD Radeon instead. It all comes from the same manufacturer. AMD graphics and processor is a lot better than Intel graphics and processor, though. That is why high end Intel computers come with NVIDIA graphics. NVIDIA graphics, like Intel processors, are the best. The downside to being the best is that you have less bang for the buck. So, Deapswift, you are correct.

Make sure you get Win7 - 64bit, not 32bit as 32bit doesn't unitize the RAM completely. Try online stores. I got my laptop from HP.com, their having a sale right now because its their anniversary.
