Getting a goldfish maybe

So, im having thoughts of getting a goldfish :3 They ain't too expensive, also, it will make me entertained with something when im super bored (lol). I may also give my room some 'life'. Anyone who have any tips for a newbie? OFCOURSE I'm getting a glass bowl for it too. What size should the bowl be?

Goldfish do better in a tank with a filter. They are really dirty fish and can live an extremely long time if taken care of correctly. The idea with goldfish is "one inch of fish per 2 gallons of water" (not sure how that translates in the metric system). Also, fish do not grow to the size of their container, that is a myth.

Actually.. when I was about 11 or 12 my sister and I won goldfish at a street carnival. We got tanks for them and stuff and took care of them. While I was cleaning out the tank, her fish jumped out and when I went back to the bowl it was all dried up. Anyway... That was 8 - 9 years ago. You know what the point of this is? My goldfish is still alive, and it's huge. I had to give it away to my best friend.. and he eventually had to give it away to his moms friend who had an outdoor pond.

DO NOT KEEP THEM IN JUST A BOWL. I can't tell you how much gold fishies i've killed like that....If i told you petsmart might ban me from buying fishies D: Get a tank with a filter. They poop like crazy.... And dont ever over feed them.

Sjoooberg Well usually just follow what the food package says. Lets say you only have one gold fish. Don't feed it more then 2 times a day with a small pinch of food. They can eat/poop themselves to death. My friend's gold fish died in mid-poop before.

Sjoooberg Yup. They poop worse then rabbits or hamsters and thats saying something because my hamster pooped every 15-30mins. Yeah and its okay to skip a day or two of feeding. Just don't go starving them for a week or so.

If you want a goldfish, get probably a 20 gallon tank for one if you plan to keep it for a long time. You never know when stunting will start so better be safe. And get a filter with it too, which you have to cycle for weeks. If you really want a pet fish, get a betta. They cost a bit more than goldfish, but still only a few dollars. Get a 2.5 gallon for one though, at the very least. Plus bettas could live without filters since they can breathe through the surface. That doesn't mean they shouldn't get one though, mine perked up so much once I put him in a 5 gallon with a filter and a heater. Oh, also, get a small heater if it gets cold in the winter where you live.
