I can't read books that long. I don't like how dark the movies are, I can barely see anything. It's pitch black and trees allover.

I disagree with you, All books are better than their movie, for the plain fact that many parts are skipped and that includes characters and such. There have been a lot of good parts in the book that the movie just feels isn't important. Peeves the Poltergeist in e.g...Movies are only good to put a real face to a fictional character.
