What's wrong with keeping my writing utensils in my pocket?

I started this habit because I found it easier than holding pens,pencils,erasers,etc all day or taking them in and out of a pencil case.Everyone will always stare at me and say something along the lines of "OMG WTF YOU KEEP PENCILS IN YOUR POCKET?HAHA NERD".When a teacher assigned a writing assignment about habits I wrote about keeping my writing instruments in my pocket and he underlined it and wrote LOL.

Same scenario happened to me. I took out my pencil from my pocket when I was at home. She said something along the lines.... "You keep your pencil in your pocket? You nerd."

the thing is this happened when i was in highschool the guy was jumping and fell and got stab in the leg by his pencil that was in his pocket
