Hey Basil help me with this riddle

I found a crossword and on the back it had this. A man goes into a store and says, "If you give me as much money as I have now,I will spend 10$ in your store." The proprietor agrees and the man spends the money. He goes into a second store and again says, "If you give me as much money as I have now,I will spend 10$ in your store." Again, the proprietor agrees and the man spends the money. In a third store, he repeats his proposition, the proprietor agrees, and the man spends the money. At this point the man has no money left. How much money did this man have to begin with? It might be a math problem or a riddle I don't know.

The man had $8.75 to begin with. Let me explain. First store gives man money: 8.75 + 8.75 = 17.50 Man spends $10 at first store: 17.50 - 10 = 7.50 He now has $7.50 Second store gives man money: 7.50 + 7.50 = 15 Man spends $10 at second store: 15 - 10 = 5 He now has $5 Third store gives man money: 5 + 5 = 10 Man spends $10 at third store: 10 - 10 = 0 He now has $0 Problem solved.
