| Announcing my newest project! The training calculator! Using the accuracy and damage calculator, and a monster database, I am going to make a calculator that shows your best spot to train post Big Bang. Here it is. Be sure to enable macros, by the way. Microsoft 2007 Version: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=34TO1LNL Compatible Version: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=PPOQK0DW Table of Contents Introduction Calculators AP Distribution Skill List SP Distribution Training Areas Videos Credits Introduction This is still, in my opinion, the best ever description of the I/L Magician, quoted from abakre2 s guide. Bam. With the first cast, blizzard showers on the monsters. A skele is left soon to be totaled with a quick shock of chain lightning. Repeat. With pure elegance the I/L Arch Mage grinds showing off his flashy skills. One by one the attacks resemble mighty speed. Not the feel of power but the feel of accomplishment. The glowing timeless staff waving around, the technique is what we make of an Ice Lightning Magician. A staff is at times similar to a sword. Not a weapon but an extension and to master the skills one must learn. The art of Magic is not a gift but a talent. Calculators To test out your damage with each skill, use this calculator: Microsoft 2007 Version: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=NK5FPR5N Microsoft 1997-2003 and Open Office Version: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ADRKX7NC To test out if you can hit a particular monster, use this calculator: Microsoft 2007 Version: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=SKBEXSWH Microsoft 1997-2003 and Open Office Version: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=C521FL2W AP Distribution Luk Magician Luk Magicians begin in the game as weaker than their Lukless and LowLuk counterparts. However, by level 200, a Luk Magician is slightly stronger than a Lukless or LowLuk Magician with no party buffs or Magic Attack potions. Luk Magicians always keep their Luk 3 points higher than their level. This is required to wear Magician equips. The rest of their AP goes into Int. Lukless Magician Lukless Magicians begin in the game as stronger than their Luk and LowLuk counterparts. However, by around level 70, LowLuk Magicianswill begin to overtake them. At level 200, Lukless Magicians are stronger than Luk Magicians with several party buffs and a Magic Attack potion. Lukless Magicians keep their Luk at the base of 5. They put ALL of their AP into Int. Some Lukless Magicians choose to get Luk equips, so that they may wear Magician equips that require Luk. LowLuk Magician LowLuk, arguably the best way to go, begins the game with medium damage. They overtake Lukless by around level 70, and by level 200, they have the potential to be the strongest Magician out of all 3 AP Distributions. LowLuk Magicians add Luk like Luk Magicians until their Luk reaches a certain point, at which they cap it. The rest of their points the rest of the game go into Int. It is the choice of the Magician on where to cap Luk, but commonly, it is capped at 50. Skill |

| Edit: O nvm you referenced me. I went for Thunderbolt maxed before Spell Mastery because supposedly it would do a higher average damage per Thunderbolt. I guess Spell Mastery first would be for the sake of balancing out Magic Claw for whatever circumstances would necessitate that over Thunderbolt. |

|
kirbyhyper : I did this a while ago, but it's kinda dead now.
Yeah, I used some of your opinions in mine, but I disagreed with some of it. I have you in the credits. Yeah, one thing I disagreed with. Spell mastery should raise the average damage more than maxing thunderbolt. By 25%, I believe. It also adds that extra 10 magic attack, which does wonders at low level. |
You don't have any points into Thunderbolt while you're maxing Spell Mastery. I also did some small calculation (it was the lazy type which doesn't factor in the Magic increase but I still somewhat question it; but once again there probably are circumstances in which a more balanced Magic Claw might be more helpful). I would also suggest that new players are able to get Slow to an amount as well. The drop Cold Beam option should probably also be an option for new I/L players since I still don't see people training with that skill even after Big Bang. Otherwise you could split the MP Eater/Slow SP similarly to the way I mentioned in my post. Edit: Just to mention something else, you put 20 SP into Elemental Reset into your 3rd job build. |

My main argument is that once Ice Strike is maxed, Slow will be nearly useless, even more so than cold beam. Cold Beam may remain as the character's only 1 vs 1 ice attack for the rest of the game. I also believe in maxing MP Eater, because for unfunded people like me, every meso helps. But of course, anyone can change any part of this skill build for their own personal happiness. It is not set in stone, I just put it the way I see best fit for most cases. By the way, could you explain how to link to headers? |

By the way, could you explain how to link to headers?
I was unfunded too creating my I/L, but I guess it's just matter of playstyle. I did a little bit of Cold Beam and it was pretty bad. And the way I trained with Thunderbolt, it was pretty much impossible for me to notice a gain from MP Eater. And you pretty much cannot get a positive MP gain from MP Eater training with Ice Strike (and I still don't think you will but that's opinion). Slow would be more of a bossing skill (bossing as in prior to people consistently hitting the damage cap). But my main argument for having Slow for a little while was "freeze Bigfoot on a ladder". Reason why is because you can't for the following reasons: -you can't freeze an ice-resistant/immune monster -you can't freeze a boss -you can't freeze while on a rope/ladder (not counting the fact that Bigfoot doesn't spawn in a map that has no ropes or ladders) But personally when I was Ice Strike training (not saying that this will so easily apply now because half the training points we have are out of the question) I still used Slow for any cases I would have issues hitting everything with Ice Strike, or was on a rope/ladder. That's just me; I'm sure some people would want to get Slow for reason(s) listed above. Perhaps give a couple of extra build options and if possible put them in a quote to save a little bit on space. As for tagging headers, the line you put in for the header would be something like [.header=0]insertheadernamehere[./header] without that period. I personally just used numbers in order for mine, starting at 0 (which is why I put 0 in that example). Then to link into that using the Table of Contents, you would put [.s=allpartsoftheurlthatsafterwww.basilmarket.com#0]insertlinknamehere[./s], once again, using the 0 as an example. |

| Um, why don't you get one Thunderbolt before maxing Spell Mastery? Tele should be maxed before Medi and Slow, in my opinion. The extra movement speed and decreased training cost is very helpful, especially for a newer player. |

| efemera - Well, one thunderbolt really does NOTHING. You don't hit the max of 6 monsters with it, you have terrible damage with one point, especially before maxing Spell Mastery. Meditation is a good damage booster, much more after the Big Bang than now. It will help with training speed. Slow will also help in training, more so than the minimal distance increase from maxing teleport. The MP burning from teleport may encourage new players to max it earlier, however. miniman311 - Energy bolt hits 280% on one monster, Magic Claw hits 120% twice, on two monsters, totaling to 480%. It is true that energy bolt would have slightly better damage on 1 vs 1, but most of the time, there are at least 2 monsters in range to hit. I wouldn't reccomend maxing both, as the other skills are more important. Kakeru - You don't have to. You can leave it at either 5 or 6 to get max speed, I believe. However, not having to recast so often is helpful. You can put off maxing until the end, or not max it at all. To everybody, the skill builds are not written in stone. Everybody uses their skills differently, and may want to alter something about the skill build. |

Slow doesn't help with training when compared to teleport and why not just max thunderbolt all together as opposed to starting on spell mastery afterwards? Something to point out, you missed 3 MP Eater as a requirement before Meditation in the skill build. Same thing with third job. Starting on Ice Strike with 1 point and then moving onto Amp?... I just maxed Ice Strike first and then put enough into Amp to start on maxing booster. *Chain Lighting hits 3 mobs instead of 6. |

And slow will help out, especially if you don't put points into cold beam, to stop monsters from mobbing you to death. I'm rather getting tired of that question about thunderbolt and Spell Mastery... I will have some calculations soon to show the affects of both on average damage, to show people why. You're right about the meditation requirement, and the CL number of hits. |

I use Teleport every other attack, so it's just too much of a hassle to burn the level 1 MP cost, plus the distance does help, but that's just me. |

Thunderbolt first is known for being a pot burner build so what's the point for slow when teleport is more efficient in speed for movement? |
