Do you remember the good ol' days where if you needed to go AFK, all you needed to do is go to the nearest town and you were guaranteed the safety of your character? Well, sadly, with the arrival of Ludibrium and the infamous summoning bags, those days are over. Summoning bags have become a plaything of those who wish to wreck havoc on unsuspecting travelers, therefore forcing them to lose hard-earned experience, and a nightmare for any reasonable Mapler who works hard at leveling and climbing the ranks, such as myself. I have already died twice from monsters spawned by summoning bags, and so I would like to give some hints and tips to my fellow Maplers on how to avoid becoming a victim of summoning bags. 1. Avoid going AFK in large groups of people. Even if you are a high level, large groups of people seem to attract those who find enjoyment of watching 10 or more people die in one or two seconds, and it's highly probable that one of those people might be you, especially if someone summons a higher level monster, such as a Mushmom or a Balrog. These "hot spots" include Kerning City, in the Party Quest area, Perion channel 1, and the Ludibrium Party Quest area. 2. A good place to go AFK almost anywhere is on a rope or a ladder. Obviously, if you position your character high enough on the rope, no monster can reach you there, not even the jumping ones. 3. If there are no ropes or ladders around, try standing on a small platform; the smaller the better. The worse that could happen is you'll get hit once by the monster, then you'll fall to another platform below and out of harm's way, and the fool that summoned the monsters will have completely wasted a summoning bag. Also try standing on the very edge of a platform; this should have the same effect. 4. Unless you are attempting to buy or sell something, avoid announcing to the world that you are AFK. By announcing I mean setting up a game room labeled "AFK". Even if you are by yourself, people will love taking advantage of the fact that you are AFK, and therefore vulnerable and unable to defend yourself. (Take it from me, this was one of my first mistakes.) 5. There are a few areas in MapleStory where summoning bags are disabled. If you want a safe-haven where you can go AFK monster-free, you'll want to try these places: The boat docks at Orbis and Ludibrium, during the boat (or train) rides, all of the Jump Quest areas in Ellinia, Sleepywood and Kerning City, both saunas at Sleepywood, and possibly the Free Market? (I'm not 100% sure, but I believe the Free Market is safe.) 6. Use the buddy system. It's better to go AFK when you're with friends (especially strong ones) than going AFK someplace by yourself. With your friends acting as your bodyguards, you have a much better chance at surviving an attack, and people will think twice before attacking a small group of people, as versus one person. I hope this helps all of you. I get frustrated when I see someone (including myself) go AFK and come back

Ummm. Don't need to read that. Just click on Cash Shop when you need to afk.

Sweet, thanks. I've been killed twice as well, but for some reason, my EXP seemed to go up 3%... o.0;; Maybe I just didn't notice beforehand or something. But I'm pretty sure my guild leader's been hit by monsters in the Ellinia Ticket Booth. And yeah, I'm pretty sure the Free Market's a safe place. It'd be cheap otherwise. Edit: But if you're in the Cash Shop you don't regain HP/MP, and you don't regain HP on a ladder unless you have Endure.

smart.. but id say the best way is to go into a free market.... if not, use ur magic guardx and stuff, and stay on the ground, not in a big crowd, but near a crowd fulll on strong lvl ppl... mainly because ppl wouldnt think that after they use the bags, the mosnters will reach the people, so thats y u stay NEAR them.. if it hapens to push u, the strong lvl ppl will kill them eventually

Yeah, summoning bags are the most retarded thing. Why did they even put in? Just to have innocents killed...for people's enjoyment? This was a stupid thing and should be taken out.

Oogendune 03/26/06 + PM | QUOTE | PERMALINK | REPORT
OogenduneThanks...for the information.. It's you own dumb fault if you die while standing in the middle of the town with AFK over your head, though.. people who put up a game room that says "SLEEPING AFK" and never play for 10 hours Should die and be defamed, however.. for taking up Scania space, it's rude.

QxytDon't forget NEVER go afk on a "safe platform" where there are monsters spawning on that map even if monsters don't spawn on the platform you are on. Because someone can summon monsters and make you fall off your "safe platform". But the best way not to die from this kind of situation is to LOG off when you go AFK.. or cash shop O_o
WizzRobe 03/26/06 + PM | QUOTE | PERMALINK | REPORT
I know this sounds completely insane and inconsiderable, but if you don't want to die while being AFK, why don't you try just logging off *gasp* Its so crazy it just might work
