Introduction Hello boys, girls, and animals (?) of basilmarket! I've done my share of surfing around this website, looking at people's complaints about suspensions, asking mods about what they would suspend, and reporting person after person (though it died down recently due to school) for every last rule they break. However, I keep seeing people complain about getting suspended! I, for one, cannot imagine why someone would complain about getting suspended unless they simply were not aware of the rules. We have two VERY excellent guides already on the rules and regulations of basilmarket. However, there are still many hidden factors that will indeed get you suspended, factors that people are unaware of. I'm here to try my best and list all of these factors so people won't go crazy after they get suspended. It's annoying seeing that all the time, and even though I can simply avoid these threads, we all have that little feeling deep down inside that wants to click on threads that we KNOW will have things that we hate, just so we can bash at them over and over and over and.... you get my point. Some threads... the mods tell us to avoid. MrBasil tells us to avoid them too. We just have to play it nice and avoid these threads completely! However, if you're like me, you'd probably be tempted to post in these threads anyways. So, if you really must post in these threads or reply to a comment that you just absolutely must reply to, go ahead, but read this guide first so you know how to reply without getting suspended. Two Separate Threads First off, due to a thread I saw before making this thread, I will be using Fahla's Comprehensive guide of BasilMarket Rules as well as LimusocoBobo's Comprehensive guide of the BasilMarket Policies. **Note that almost all of Fahla's and LimusocoBobo's rules and policies will be listed here. If you guys want an official bibliography I'll do so at the end ;). My personal wording and responses and suggestions and examples will be added here. So expect one hell of a wall of text. Rule #1: Attacking [quote] mrbasil : " Attacks on users or moderators, or comments made to incite an argument are not allowed. If someone is attacking or provoking you, report the comment or PM and we will deal with it as soon as possible. " [/quote] This rule is one of the most commonly suspend-able rule there is. Most people find themselves suspended right after they called someone 'stupid.' Then they complain about it. That's when I read their complaints, scratch my head, sneeze, and then click on the basilmarket banner. -If can't say anything neutral, nice, and/or constructive, do not say it. See a troll? Was this really needed? Here, I'll make this entire thread summed up in one sentence; If you question yourself on if what you're about to post breaks a rule, it probably does, and it's better off not being posted.

[/quote] If only people could realize that. It seems quite obvious, but why do you think there are so many rule breakers? People post things and the fact that they're breaking a rule doesn't even cross their mind in the first place.

[/quote] While this is true, the fact of the matter is that no matter what we do, people will continue to whine about suspensions. Simply creating more guides on the rules won't help. I'm not saying this is a horrible guide, just that it won't solve anything.

I just think that the people who end up getting suspended because they usually do not read the rules page (and/or the rules guide or policies threads) will not even bother looking at this. And even if they did look at this, they wouldn't comprehend it. And even if they did comprehend it, they wouldn't change their behavior. Yes, there's a lot of unintentional rule-breaking. But most of the unintentional rule-breaking is because of purposeful ignorance to the rules. Users actively choose not to read the rules and then they get disciplined for it. Basically, I'm saying that even though I appreciate the effort that you put into this, I am afraid that it may hardly be useful where we need it most. I believe that a more efficient solution to the problem would be for as many Basilers as possible to Submit Tickets asking for the Rules page to be updated to include "hidden rules" and whatever other changes you guys wish to be made. Just make sure to keep those tickets concise though, because mrbasil has to read a lot of tickets every day and if you make it too long, he may not be able to act as quickly as you'd like.

[/quote] If 300 people get suspended every day for breaking the rules on average [random number, not estimate], and my guide stops 5 people per day from breaking the rules, then within a month, the time spend making this guide and the time spent reporting those 5 people a day would be the same, and after a month, it'd be definitely worth it.

This is a clarification of a clarification of the clarified rules. I gotta agree with Bobo, this..isn't gonna be too useful. Fahla's guide is definitely well clarified enough. If everyone read that guide, we'd be good. If everyone read this guide, we'd be good. Unfortunately, that's not gonna happen. On a brighter note, people will probably see this one more because it's not stickied. For now, anyway.

I've read the list of rules that Mr. B posted from top to bottom, yet I still get suspended for things not stated in the rules. The basilmarket suspension system is corrupt, and you WILL get suspended for the littlest things, things that are not mentioned in the list of Rules.

One is for being racist (listed in the rules) the other is for using a post extender (listed whenever you try and post something too short, and is VERY logically derived from the fact that we even HAVE a post limit).

[/quote] The Basilmarket suspension system is not corrupt, its just broken. Extending the information in a broken suspension system will leave you with a suspension system thats still broken. So I don't really see the point of this thread.

[/quote] Did you miss the "and/or rules guide and policies thread" part of my post? If you don't read it all, then you're being purposefully ignorant since the Rules guide is linked to ON the Rules page and the Policies guide is linked to IN the Rules guide. But seriously, how ridiculous did all of that sound? As I earlier said, we need to put a stop to the madness and bring reform the Rules page.

And I honestly don't understand how anyone is complaining about hidden rules or blah blah blah. I've gone from getting banned once every week (at least) to going at least two months without a ban and I haven't even changed my content in my posts. If anything, mods have gotten more lenient, not less. Nor do I understand why people believe that moderators ban people, just because, and think that it's justified.

[/quote] i don't see what's so corrupt about "includes but is not limited to." MrBasil doesn't have the time [well he probably does since this only takes an hour] to make a super-detailed version of the rules. Remember, just because it's not in the rules doesn't mean it's not against the rules.
