Typing characters limit?

What is the limit of it? And also, how people make those extra big threads that look like it is bigger than the maximum limit? Just wondering. Thanks in advance.

I've never encountered a character limit. I've seen people spam the same word over and over and it with extend to well over a page length. Thus, leading me to believe there is no character limit. A character limit doesn't really make much sense to me. It would limit guide writers. Too long;didn't read - Ice isn't slippery. What makes people and things slip on ice is water. A thin layer of ice melts when pressure is applied to it and it is this wet layer on top of the ice that is slippery.

Assuming it's still around, I think the limit is 50,000 characters. That's what WillDaSnail said... in 2008. :P

[/quote] No, it's because the next upper limit level that we can set it to is around 16 million, which would cause every page to lag like crazy regardless of how much text is put there.

The maximum limit would be 65,535 characters. About 65K - just like Kevvl said. 65K characters is a pretty big number though, so it's possible that people with posts close to, but not exceeding, the cap might seem to be over it. The OSSS Quest Guide on the front page, for example, seems pretty huge - but it's still inside the 65K character limit. If you find a page that looks like the Common Scam Prevention Guide , however, those are stickied guides - and they have the character cap increased to the 16m character limit exclusively for the guide, so they don't have to break it up into multiple posts. They are, however, a special exception, since guides sometimes do exceed the 65K character limit. Most non-guide posts find the 65K limit to be very generous though, so there isn't really a need to increase it - especially when it could be abused to make pages lag, like Kevvl mentioned.

If a new limit was instated on all pages and no one spammed, there'd still be server lag and bandwidth issues. That's why it's reserved for guides.
