You guys always lock or delete religion threads. Even if the people have good insight or something useful or interesting to say. I don't think it breaks the rules in any way. The flame wars are up to the basilers, the thread doesn't have to die just because a flame war starts. I won't be surprised if this thread gets deleted too, even though it doesn't break any rules.

Even if the thread itself wasn't meant to flame anything, it can be seen as "flame bait," or the comments in the thread gradually lead up to a flame war. So a lot of those threads probably get locked/deleted, and the TS might not get suspended as long as his intentions weren't bad.

To the people saying it was flame bait: Any form of opinion may be considered flame bait. For example: I say, "Laptops are better than desktops." The other person says, "No, desktops are better than laptops." Before you know it, it becomes a flame war. So any kind of opinionated thread can be considered flame bait since someone will have any opposing opinion that they think is better. Therefore, any kind of opinionated thread should be against the rules since it's flame bait. This is why basilmarket is becoming a more bland and boring place where opinions and discussions can't even be made without it being labeled as "flame bait" or a "flame war". Also, I believe "flame war" is used very loosely. Any kind of discussion where people attack the other person's point of view can be considered a flame war. Oh wait, that's what we call debate. Flame wars are basically just debates where one side attacks the other. If people's feelings get hurt, so be it. In a debate, opposing views may hurt, but that's why they're opposing. This is another reason why basil is getting boring. Every debate will be labeled a flame war and we'll be subjected to random non-opinionated threads that are very boring to read. I agree TS that religious threads shouldn't be locked just because they're "flame wars". They're simply debates in which different sides have different opinions.

Religion is one of those never-ending conflicts and topics that go around in our daily lives and society. Thing is, it will never be resolved due to how people think and behave. Some speak their minds a lot more than others.. and some don't. Ignorance is a popular thing in society these days. Issue with Religion is.. is that it's all about belief. There will never be proof in any matter whether God exists.. or whether ghosts exist, so there will always be believers and non-believers. And there will always be people on each side that will stubbornly argue with others bent on their beliefs, trying to prove something that can never be proven. And a lot of people get offended if others don't believe the same things they do.. as to why it usually gets really chaotic in the threads here.. any debate really tends to get out of hand since some members don't tend to hold their tongue and let their minds run away with them, spewing out foul language rather than a logical argument. We lock some of these threads.. to pretty much avoid this kind of thing.

Catholic Flame bait isn't dealt with until it's proven to BE flame bait, and gets harsh, attacking replies. Also, there's a big difference between attacking others and having a debate. A debate is all about reasoning and examples and such, attacking others is like "That's such a typical thing for an atheist to say" or something even more harsh of course.
