note: this question is related with logorithms Given 3^x = 4^y = 12^z, show that z= (xy)/(x+y) I think you need to have the same base for all.

You could try using logarithms.

At above: Year 12 is probably 18+ I forgot my logarithms already! But, its impossible to change to same base...

Actually its winter here in Australia and we dont have holidays until 5 more weeks and this is a year 12 question that we're currently doing in year 11 (16 years old). DexTheDrk I know T_T

nvm got it. first let it all equal k k=3^x=4^y=12^z then log all of em log10k=1og10 3^x = log10 4^y = log10 12^z then get the thingos down so... log10k= xlog10 3 = ylog10 4 = zlog10 12 then get x,y and z x= log10k / log10 3 y=log10k / log10 4 z= log10k / log10 12 then sub em in voila! huge equation that i cbf typing thanks basil :D

Year 12 is ages 16/17 for those who thought he meant 12 :P And oh gosh, this is why i stopped doing maths after year 11.
