How to prevent hair knots?

So yeah...anyone know how to prevent them? It's kinda different for me though..The hairs aren't tied to each other but the hair strand's tied to itself if you get what I mean...Like if you take one string and do one knot on itself...yeah...I comb my hair a lot but..yup O_o anyone know what to do? Change in shampoo?

My hair used to be like that. But then I changed shampoos, I'm guessing that might be a factor :/

use aussie 3 minute moisturizing leave in conditioner once a week. use only a dollop, if you will and concentrate on the ends of your hair. when i had really long hair, it'd unknott my hair a jiffy.

Yeah use conditioners and make sure you brush it in the morning and after showers.
