ive heard people say YES to both sides of this so anybody know for SURE: Do wands cast faster than staves?

not true, same atk spd, atk jsut depends on the higher lvl the weapon is like always, just weapon atk is slow for stafves

I DID notice a slight drop in speed when I switched from my cromi to my thorns, but that might just be my imagination, and it's probably not true...

Phew, I got here just in time. My old account got deleted 'cause I never bothered to post anything. Yes, it's true, they have same magic attack speed. Only the weapon speed is slower for staffs. I have actually used a timer for this with my friends to experiement. That's why you never bring an arc staff for bonus stage on Ludibrium PQ ;).

I'v had a mage, and tested both... The spell speed is exactly the same . The only way spell speed is effected is with 'Magic Booster' in the third job advancement.

wow... people always ask this question... so.. once and for all... casting speed is not the same as weapon attack speed! the casting speed of a spell depends entirely on the spell itself. some spells cast relatively quickly, such as magic claw, whereas others have a longer cooldown between casts, such as explosion. The only thing that can change the casting speed of a spell is the booster skill for 3rd job mages. Weapon attack speed applies only to direct physical attacks, namely hitting something with your staff or wand. In this case, the wand will be faster, but realistically, you never use them to attack, so it is a pretty pointless stat.. unless maybe you're making a strength cleric or something... and for stuff like the pq bonus in ludi, you would be best off to equip a weapon with a 'faster' attack speed before entering the bonus, such as a red tube. Also, some people say that wands or staves have a higher magic attack than the other, which is not really true. Whichever equipment has a higher level requirement will have the higher magic attack, not counting scrolling. Thus, a clean and average thorns will be better than a cromi, and a wizard wand will have higher magic attack than an emerald staff. The most powerful weapon for mages currently in OMS is the magicodar wand, which is ridiculously rare, seeing as it drops from gatekeepers, and there arent many people who can hunt those... Lastly, the weapon attack stat on the wands and staves is insignificant, and has no meaning for magicians. The only stat from your weapon factored into the spell damage is the magic attack. The weapon attack only comes into play if you are attacking something physically (hitting them with it) which is something that you will not be doing unless, as previously stated, you are a strength cleric/mage. So, I hope that clears some of those issues away.

Yeah, what thepoenn said. Casting speed is all about the spell. The attack speed is for when you hold down ctrl or whatever button you use for a physical attack.

wep atk speed is faster with wands but magic atk speed is the same. Casting with cromi was same as casting with a Thorns so just believe me.

well wands are faster but not evil wings. i think they are like the fastest staff
