What is the difference between Root Beer and Cream Soda?

Both these 2 soft drinks come from Vanilla and their taste are very similar. Why do we have 2 names for basically the same thing? EDIT: I went to Walmart today and bought Cream Soda and Root Beer Faygo brand and I still couldn't taste the difference. I even tried mixing them to see what it tasted like and I must say it tasted quite good actually.

Cream Soda is a bit more bubbly What about root beer and Birch beer? There is absolutely no difference besides color
