Hey all, I want to start off by saying that I have played both wow and maplestory. However, I have played far more maple than wow. Since I last played wow I couldn't help but compare it to maplestory and in some instances find myself looking at the structure within wow as a hint towards where maplestory is going. I see world of warcraft as a fairly 'complete' game. While new content is being released in new major patches every few years, one may call it a well balanced game, between levels, jobs, races, skills and end game content. The only question mark would have to be on Wow Gold. But lets leave that. In my mind, and from this perspective, it seems that Nexon, is attempting to shift maplestory in the Wow direction. While the differences between the games are great and they are what makes each unique (2D Ftw?), the more I look at it, the more it seems that this Big Bang patch is a strong push in the direction of 'wowing' maplestory. Don't get me wrong, I see this process as a good thing. Hopefully now there will incentive to play beyond level 160 and more equips and end game content for even level 200s. If your looking for evidence for this overall rebalancing of the 1-200 journey, look at the way monsters are categorized now in KMS. The Levels have been 'stretched out' from 1-170ish, thus making some monsters only accessible and worthwhile to high level players who at present struggle through what is infact 25% of the levels avaliable (150-200) (e.g. coolie zombies, in GMS are around lvl 6x?, but with the Big Bang patch they are around lvl 130 i believe). We are also starting to see more changes not disimilar to wow. All classes now have base crits and the jobs are becoming more diversified, each with more individual skills (e.g. Paladins as of Big Bang actually have more skills akin to their namesake, not to mention wow pallys). We are also seeing the role of different classes becoming more pronounced and, like wow, specializing in tanking roles, DPS roles, and supporting roles). If I had to guess, I see a big whole in the 'natural' themed aspects of the game. We could easily see a natural variant on one of the already made classes in the next couple of years. (druids anyone lol?, E.g. a nature mage/dryad job) Anyway, to cut a long story short, is maple trying to become more of a 'complete' game like wow, or is it, in your opinion entirely different and cutting its own path in the world of MMORPGs? Your thoughts

I've never tried WoW in my life, simply not worth paying the money. As a "complete" game, yes, I think you're absolutely right in Nexon trying to ease up the game for the higher leveled players. As for jobs; Wild Hunters, Battle Mages and Mechanics will be released soon enough in KMST. As oppose to following suit with more common MMO classes, they're creating their own different classes.

Big Bang patch - Black magician comes back and changes the landcape, etc. WoW patch (Cataclysm?) - Some dragon awakens and changes the landscape. (I think. Don't play WoW anymore.) This is the first thing I thought when I heard about Big Bang, anyways.

above yep another good point. There are teaser videos of catacylsm hitting wow and previous zones, e.g. barrens Before and After shots. NExon is writing in a similar story of epic destruction, which would explain why all the changes are occuring. Also, the mere fact that the Big Bang patch is so similar in size and momentousness to wows Burning Crusade, Lich King and Catacylysm patches shows their increasing similarities.

I've played both WoW and Maplestory for a long time, both for about a year and a half, off and on, and you cannot compare the two of them. They both have a type of uniqueness that makes them so great. And honestly when i played Maplestory i found myself trying to spend a lot more than $15 a month, and thats the best part about wow. $15 and you get everything you want, there is no extra fees, costs, or anything, and gold is fairly easy to obtain. I just don't think people can compare the two games.

It really isn't that addicting at all. I played it for a couple of months and got pretty bored of it because I completed about all I was able to do on my main character.

above , i was the same. I went back after I stopped paying and had a go on a trial account. In the 10 days avaliable I made three level 20 characters in comfortable time, each with really nice equips, thanks to dungeons, and their own mounts. Its arguably too easy if you know what your doing, and this was without auction house, male, trading and any form of funding. I believe the difficulty of maple is one of its defining features.

I enjoy playing wow more casually then Maplestory. I quit maple for the reason that, training on wow is sooo much more fun then grinding on Maplestory.

i actually love the diversified classes, this makes it so there isn't one "amazing class that can do everything" *COUGH*BISHOP*COUGH* they can tank a hit with MG, they can attack and kill almost the whole screen, and they have 654776532678254 buffs.

[/quote] Im not sure if you're referring to diversified classes in maple or wow and/or how sarcastic you're being. But, for those who don't know: in wow. 2Factions Horde/Alliance Each faction as of Cataclysm has six races each. Each races have a different combination of the TEN classes avaliable (e.g. hunter, priest, Paladin) In my experience and observations of wow, all jobs/races/factions are nearly perfectly balanced. Players are happily willing to take their characters to 80 and are not seriously deterred by a certain job or race. (E.g there isnt a serious shortage of druids, or Gnomes). Balance Maple lacks such balance at present (Dexless sins > BW Paladins in the eyes of the average mapler) This is a major issue that must be addressed.
