It could also be heat. Do you have anything to cool it?

What's the specs of your computer? Operating System, CPU, GPU, and RAM? You could get this information by going to: Start >> Run >> Type in: dxdiag >> Ok There you will find your processor/CPU, memory, and your OS. Go to the Display tab and you will get your GPU information.
codytoad1 : its probably a problem with your registry, download wise registry cleaner pro, it should help you clean up your registry and help make your computer faster
NO. Bad idea. Do not use registry cleaners unless you know what you are doing. Deleting something important in the registry can really screw up your programs and the OS itself. The memory/RAM has almost nothing to do with system performance, it's just only storage for computer data. MapleStory does not need to store so much in the RAM. It's all about your CPU, your graphics card, etc. Do what qwan456 says and post that information here.

Bro, I'm guessing it's heat, you can run maplestory excellently on your PC without problem. Only advices that I can give is, turn off PC whenever you're not using, expose it to a cooler area, use Speefan/Gamebooster (both legit, Speedfan checks how hot your PC/Laptop is and Gamebooster closes programs that are unnecessary and are unused) There is nothing wrong with your PC, the minimum RAM to play it is like 64MB. If my advices don't work, use the laptop and make sure to get a laptop fan

Ram isn't your problem man, you need 64MB minimum to run Maplestory. You have 512MB, no clue what the problem is.

Go to "Help and Support", and search "Disk Defragmentor". Use it lol... As you play Maplestory, the files that are accessed slowly get spread out, and it basically moves them back together so your computer can access them faster... Edit: And also try GameBooster?
the registry cleaner I suggested only gets rid of the registries that are safe, AND it backs up the registry and creates a file of the backup before you can even clean it out, so its 100% safe

No registry cleaner are 100% safe. If a program only get rid of entries that are "safe", then there shouldn't be any need to back it up. Meaning the company who made that cleaner acknowledge the fact that it can mess up your computer. While it good to have a backup, there have been cases of which the user have no longer able to boot into Windows or go into Safe Mode to even use that backup. So for a few milliseconds increase of load up times from cleaning out a few MB entries from the registry that you may not even notice, you are risking making your computer inoperable with a free headache in an attempt to fix it. So quite honestly, unless the TS know how to manually pick out the bad and good entries given by that particular cleaner and use it to clean it up, I would advise him not to mess with it.
ninjagouk : Ram isn't your problem man, you need 64MB minimum to run Maplestory. You have 512MB, no clue what the problem is.
Minimum requirement is 128MB. When I still play MS, there are times that my RAM usage for MS will shoot up to 400MB-500MB depending on where I'm at, and that's not including the what is running in the background or the OS. Anyways, TS, since you said "just about everything else" is slow, I'm going to say you will need to do some maintenance on your computer. A good place start is using this guide . Restart your computer afterwards, and if you haven't done so already use CCleaner and clean out the temporary junk that tends to build up over time. Once you have done that, run a virus scan with your AV, and then a scan using Malwarebytes right after it. And finally use a Disk Defragmentation program to defrag your computer (which can help with load times as well as extend the life of your HDD). Also, like it have been said a few times here, try using Gamebooster as well. It will temporary close unneeded programs and free up your CPU cycles and RAM usage.
