Handshaking originally was done to show the other person that you were unarmed, that is why it is done with the right hand, the hand you hold your spear, sword, or whatever in. *secret*handshakes are a way to prove to one another that you are a part of the "in" crowd, or have been inducted and can be trusted by your clique.
