The other day, I was playing The Sims 3, when I realized I had to wait a few minutes after each game interaction. I looked at the back of the case, and it turns out I need .5GB of RAM to meet the minimum requirements. The system I have right now is comprised of these components: -AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800 -1GB of RAM -Vista 32bit OS -Along with other overpriced Dell components So I was looking to upgrade my system completely. My needs are going to be word processing, web browsing, and a little bit of gaming (like The Sims). This will also function as a storage PC for our family's videos, and pictures. The videos will be in HD, if we upgrade from our 1990 camcorder. The computer I plan on getting is the Dell XPS 8100, but I'm open to other options as well. The help I mostly need is which components are right for me. Here is what I think I'm going to get as of now: -Intel Core i5-650 -Windows 7 Home Premium -4GB of DDR3 RAM -Acer h243h monitor (separate) -ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024MB GDDR5 -640GB - 7200RPM, SATA 3.0Gb/s, 16MB Cache -16X DVD+/-RW Drive So what should I upgrade/downgrade? I want the graphics card to compliment the monitor, and watch videos in the sharpest HD. So anyways, any suggestions?

The difference between the i5-650 and the i5-750 is that the first is a dual core and the second is a quad core. I believe the 650 has hyperthreading as well that the 750 does not have. Overall, your build seems to accommodate your needs fairly well. The 5670 is a bit of a lower-end card, but I believe it can still run The Sims 3 quite smoothly. The 16X optical drive is a little bit odd, only cause I thought that Dell only offers 22X, but hey, what do I know. The 5670 is a bit of a lower-end card, but it can still get the job done. If there is an option to upgrade to a 5770, that would probably be a great investment for your gaming and HD video needs. Everything you have should be great, but if you have the knowledge to build your own rig, I would strongly advise doing so, as you can wait for sales, and save quite a bit of money. You can also pick what brands you prefer and give yourself more flexibility.

I thought I would go with Dell because it is easier, and I don't have the best understanding of how computers work, yet. My next computer will probably be custom, but I'm not paying for this one, so it isn't really my choice. I upgraded the graphics card to the 5770. No metter what, it will be twice as good as the one I have now.
