|
tuffghost : fixed gear bikes will go extinct eventually. you see, hipsters use flip flop hubs to change gears. of course they need to stop and flip the wheel around to do so. soon they will desire a fast way of changing gears without stopping and taking their bike apart. and thus hipsters will reinvent the derailleur.
changing gears on a fixed gear? |
good luck with that. the south bay isn't the best bike market. a lot of people try to sell old road bikes as "fixie projects." which is just a way saying it's good for a fixed gear conversion, and they usually charge more. but you may be able to find something good. check often to grab the new listings you may also want to consider garage sales. quality will most likely be lower but I've seen some gems for cheap another route would be an old 80s-90s no-suspension mountain bike. put some slick tires(26 x 1.0-.5) on it and you'll basically have the same thing as an old road bike, but you won't look as cool. I'm currently riding one and I'm fine with it. |

I used to ride an old schwinn le tour. good ride it was. the schwinn varsity is another good common model from the 70s cycling boom. |
