hm iphone update on ipod touch?

i have a 2nd gen ipod touch 16gb, jailbroken and i wanna know if i can update the ipod with iphone firmware (not sure which one) like iOS4 or something will tht screw up my ipod or wiill tht be allow me to text? over wifi, thx in advance xD

Around a year ago Apple only realeases 2 types of 3rd generation iPod Touch's ; 32 & 64 GB . The 8 , 16 , and sometimes 32 GB are considered 2nd generation . Thus you can only patch 3rd Gen to O.S 4.0 . Edit#1 : If you update a 3rd generation iPodTouch to O.S 4.0 it will have only some features the iPhone O.S 4.0 carries . The iPod Touch for instance will not have multitasking .
