I give up - Break it?

As the title states, I give up. After years of being in love with this one girl, trying to win her over, I give up. In the end, it'll be for naught. We're at a point where it's... ridiculously confusing and hard to progress. We're supposedly best-friends and we talk so often, text, phone-calls, IMs, it's really driving me mad... I mean, at first, I was glad we were close and I was happy as long as she was my friend and she smiled. But now, she's like a drug... my life crashed the moment I began hanging out and talking to her more frequently. My grades dropped TREMENDOUSLY from staying up-late talking to her too much, my sleep pattern has horribly scattered, my thought-process, it's not what used to be anymore. Before I had began talking to her again, my grades were at it's peak! I had been doing the best I ever had in school. My grades were in the A- through A+ range, all of them! Then.. my last quarter grades, I had dropped in every single subject. I know I shouldn't blame her for my own lack of consistency and focus... but, it's really hard. The thing is... we're so close, we've told each other so many things. I know that she isn't the type of person to release that information, and neither am I.. But, I just want to break this connection once and for all. My social life also changed because of her... I'm mostly talking to her now most-of-the-time and ignore my friends. If there was a way to change my feelings for her, I would, the closer we become, the more painful it gets for me. Of course, she doesn't and will never know. I know this is where you guys will tell me, "Well, tell her!" I can't! I've told her once before.. and she didn't feel the same one and we still stayed friends. Years later, I've told her that she's only a friend. That way... I thought that it wouldn't be as hard..but, I was wrong.. So... is there a way to break our connection? Even though we're supposedly best-friends, I just want to stop... being so close and shut our connection for good. I don't want anything to do with her anymore. It's for the better, I believe... but, I don't want her to think that she was a bad friend or anything, because she's far from it... The saying goes, if you truly love something, you should let it go. Just, it's painful to keep being with her. My main question if you guys don't feel like reading is how to break our friendship so that she won't misunderstand that she was a bad friend or anything of that line. If it helps, we're both seventeen.

If she is really hurting you that much, then you should stop being friends, without a doubt. As for advice - not much I can give, except, try to make her hate you. That way, she won't think there was something wrong that she did. That way, you can get over her sooner.

Uh, then ask her for one last time. If its a no then break off all connection. If she was really your best "friend" then she'll start to miss you and trust me, if you're a great guy and you go out with another girl, she'll eventually start to notice and get jealous. They never really know what they have until its gone.
