The Non-Ultimate Training Guide Kalemora suggested I revive my old guide given the present situation in KMS Tespia and I believe it would be a useful guide if change ever does come our way. Salutations, my fellow Grendel apprentices. Are you tired of the mundanity of training using your ultimate? Perhaps, you can no longer afford the potions to replenish your mana power? In this thread is a compilation of your fellow Maplers' experiences with non-ultimate training. Enjoy. We would appreciate it if curious Arch Mages and Bishops would go out into the Maple world and test various maps! What we do is post in this manner: IGN: xxxxxx Level: xxx Training Spot: xxxxx Skill[s]: xxxx % per hour? xx% 2x? Yes/No Party? They're also giving all the other mage skills huge boosts to balance out for the loss of their ultimates. Training results will be different.

SilverFoxRWow... even when I/L Archmages don't use ultimates, they're outperforming my Hero =p At Oblivion 4, I maybe make 7-8% an hour and spend a TON on Honsters! Just goes to show you guys... even without Ultimates, you still train well. Good mini-guide!
MastaSella : They're also giving all the other mage skills huge boosts to balance out for the loss of their ultimates. Training results will be different.
Assuming most of the skill's ranges and aoe's and such are the same and the only major difference will be damage this guide can still lead them in the right direction - mapwise. And I still think the guide is significant for mages even with no CD ultimates.

Thanks man. Uh, want me to re-tell my %/hr at Oblivion 4 in guide format? xD
SilverFoxR : Wow... even when I/L Archmages don't use ultimates, they're outperforming my Hero =p At Oblivion 4, I maybe make 7-8% an hour and spend a TON on Honsters! No offense but this guide will be pointless from the kmst changes. The skills are being changed (such as thunder spear hitting 5 times), new skills are added (elemental reset), summons are currently switched (ice/fire demon works to change the monster weak to your own element), and the monsters are being updated in hp/exp. Still shows that mages can currently train without ultmates however.

I wouldn't call it the "present" situation. At all. Approve of this guide though, 2.48%/hr at 171 isn't terrible, more could probably be achieved now that Oblivion zone is lightning-weak. I think that's comparable to other classes EXP gain. Also wasn't expecting a bishop to train at 12%/hr with Heal and Bahamut alone, soloing Himes of all places.

Sounds pretty terrible to me; that's why most people who made mages did so in the first place. We don't want 2.5% or less per hour. If you spend about 2 years to get from 180 to 200 gaining 1-2% per hour, I wouldn't call that not terrible, I'd call it a detriment to your health. Anyone, mage or non-mage, who accepts getting 1% per hour with intense grinding must enjoy torture. Just sayin xP

Training should be seen as having a little fun along the journey to completion of your characters power, not as an arduous means to an ultimately (lolpun) fruitless end. 1-2%/hr isn't "torture" if you actually like the class you're playing; 2x cards are a highly advised bonus, but not a requirement. Mages are unique in that they can still exceed 1%/hr even soloing on 1x at 199 with Ultimates as they are. Health concerns are only linked to time spent at the computer, not the EXP gain you achieve in-game.
Yes, you're right about health concerns, but my point in that aspect is that you'd almost HAVE TO put yourself in an unhealthy situation just to effectively proceed in this game (at 18x+), or else you'd be stuck at the same levels for months and years. No one likes to be stuck and no one likes slow slow grinding even if they enjoy the skills used to do it. Liking a class rarely means you'd be willing to spend umpteen hours to get it from one level to the next. That's why 4th job mages (currently) appeal to so many people. Then there's the factor of how much time a person has to play games. I for instance, work a full time job, and my mage appealed to me because I could level very fast on it and gain new skills and better damage quicker. I find this concept fun. I would think that most people would agree with me. I also like ultimates because they help me level fast, not particularly because they seem to be overpowered/leech-helpers/ks-ing machines. So my point is that most people find slow leveling to not be fun regardless of how fun they view the skills as. That's why I predict a lot of mages quitting if leveling un-characteristically turns slow for them as a result of the re-vamp.

lol II i realise lvling slow isn't fun. but we have to remember training with ultimates is expensive and boring [opinion]. as the hero said even without ultimates they were getting better % than he. so it can't be all that bad. regardless of who quits their mage if the cooldown does come and those who didn't quit need a map which best suits their skills - i believe this can guide them. :P i expect %'s from you in 1 month! :D

I find current ultimates just as boring as paralyze/etc. training but that's just me. Btw, paralyze,CL,AR just became mob skills in KMST, and big bang became a bigger bang.
