If I put tightvnc on someones computer that has a virus, will I get the virus if I connect to it by viewing it but not controling it?

BobRIt depends on whether or not that specific virus has an infection vector that includes scanning for network connections and trying to use the connection to infect whatever is on the other end. In other words, impossible to predict, but certainly possible. Viewing or controlling, you still have to make a network connection to the remote computer.

We share the same router for just Internet not sharing files. Is it possible for me to get the virus? How could I prevent myself from gettng the virus?

BobRInstall "ZoneAlarm Free" firewall on your computer, set the Internet Zone to "High", add your router's IP address to the "Trusted Zone" and all other IP addresses on your private network to the "Internet" zone. That will block anything from any other address on your local network (that shares the router) except for the router itself (the Internet).
