how can i talk to this girl i like?

well my story here is ive been thinking this girl is rly cute and such for about a year now and i havent even said hi to her yet and im gonna kinda guess she kinda in some what way she thinks the same way as me in a way in class i would always look up and i would see her starting at me from across the class and the same with me for her and we would somehow look up at each other at the same time at times so i finaly decided to that ima talk to her but idk how to =/ one of my friend is friend's with her and he said that i should just go up to her say that i think shes beautiful or something like that and walk away and that she would blush like crazy so i what im planning to do is go up to her, say that shes beautiful walk away and then say hi to her the day after that and try to strike up a conversation so what im asking is this this a good idea to start talking to her? if its not a good idea pls tell me how is it not and suggest how i should start talking to her
