Getting a new phone in a month! What to get? :)

My contract with my current phone is almost up and I couldn't be happier I currently have the HipTop slide (or the sidekick slide if your over seas) and it is the WORST phone I ever had! I only liked it because of the plan - unlimited free TEXT to any network - Unlimited free internet So now I am looking at getting one of the following phones - because they all seem good, and they all come on a decent plan, that doesn't cost too much. (I'd love to get a HTC Desire, but they cost too much a month sadly) Nokia N900 - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nokia_N900 Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sony_Ericsson_Xperia_X10 Motorola Backflip - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motorola_Backflip Motorola Cliq (Dext in some countries) - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motorola_CLIQ What phone do you all suggest? I can't really decide because each phone has good features, and bad. Any of you owned any of these phones/had experience with them? Please discuss what phone you suggest and any opinions you have on them

Having used phones sporting both the the Maemo 5 (Nokia) and Android OS I have to say that the iPhone OS is by far superior. I think Android will overtake it in a few years, but at the moment it's not quite there. As for the Nokia OS, they have a very large gap to fill before people will take them seriously. Just to clarify, I am not an Apple fan boy, and still refuse to use OSX at work, just stating my personal experience with the phones.

[/quote] Yeah I agree with that, Android OS will take over, they have the Android 2.0 out now which I think may be one of the best OS out for a phone now

Problem with that is fragmentation. But android is a great OS that's being used on most smart phones finally, instead of Windows mobile and Symbian.

But yes, the advantage that the iPhone OS is that it only has to be optimised for 1 phone, hence it performs amazingly and why so many 3rd party app developers have jumped on-board.

[/quote] I had the Rizr Z8, AMAZING phone but it had non touch screen Symbian OS. It was awful to use. I'm glad Symbian died

The Ericsson or the Backflip. I don't see any use for keyboards now on phones, since most smartphones have the built in touch keypad thing. I thought at first That using a keyboard would be better so I got the Motorola Andriod with the QWERTY keyboard, but I never use it now since i find the touch keypad so much easier since it has the spellcheck thing.

If I got to choose any phone I would go for the N900. Open source gives you pretty much everything you ever wanted. @Above: I thought the same way, until I saw the N900 beign used with keyboard shortcuts and the keyboard buttons being used in conjunction with the touch interface. "Hold space and select text. Hit CTRL C. Etc etc."
