So... My friend says i should get the lv 64 one by upgrading, but what weapon am i going to use until then? I'm planning on making a gunslinger, but not sure what weapon to use is it worth it to upgrade the maple gun to the lv 64 one when i haven't even started my gunslinger?

yeeah, i found a maple gun on my mule, and i immediatly upgraded it. Why? A 64 gun is alot more valuble, and you can do without a 35 gun. Plus, if you dont end up making a gunslinger, you can always sell it, or if you never get to 64.
