Hi basil, I know a lot of people and guilds tell you to go hybrid but polearms are just not my thing. Are there any pure spear dks or drks that regret their decision or are glad that the did what they did? I also plan on using 60% on a soul spear if not two. thanks ~fangz

I regret it. I'd be level 120 by now if I was hybrid

Spear's may look cooler, but I'm pretty sure Polearm ensures faster leveling.

You can be a hybrid and never lay a finger on a pole arm or vice versa. Final Attack, Dragon Blood, Power Crash, Iron Will, Sacrifice, and Pole Arm Crusher are worthless skills not worth putting any AP on (except for 3 in iron will for HB and 3 in Sacrifice for Roar).

i actually went pure spear because i enjoy using final attack. i also wanted to max out dragon blood. in addition, i already made an aran before i made my dk so i was pretty sick of swinging the polearm. hybrid does ensure faster leveling but seems like everyone is a hybrid now.

I didn't regret it... Pure Spear =P and still going...kinda...just Berserk30's getting in the way... >.< I'm just too lazy to switch around equips and I really can't afford multiple weapons. Also, I preferred getting all the skills first (instead of alternating between Pole Arm/Spear). Be as you may, Hybrid or not, just have fun.

I did not regret it much. I was a very poor dragon knight and unable to afford anything like scrolled equipments, especially polearm. Now, as my money builds up, I was already a dark knight, which polearm is rarely used in most situations.

the thing is, going pure has only one real benefit, which is dragon's blood, which can be replaced with pots (i believe you can NPC it now right?) and makes you miss on all the powerful techniques of the other half. you can go hybrid and not use a polearm if you want, but in the end, you'll still have the option of using polearms. unlike pure spears.

*sigh* Why go for pure anything when you get the same benefit of both from Hybrid? Hybrid gives the option to mob or boss... why throw away one? With a hybrid build you don't have to use polearms... It's just that you'll leave that option open for when you decide that you want to mob things better. Getting a clean Karstan, or using maker to get a decent polearm is not expensive. Just think ahead about where you're going to train at what levels. PPQ? Magatia PQ? Himes? Wolf Spiders? They all have large mobs meaning a hybrid would be better equipped for training during those levels. Mobbing helps level you fastest between 70-100. And if you're hybrid, that doesn't mean that you have to have both weapons in your inventory at all times... honestly I haven't touched a spear yet, and likely won't until I hit lvl 120. I like polearms, but I also like having the option to boss if I get the right spear. That's why Hybrid is the best choice.
