Hi guys! During my Phyiscs Honors class today, an AP teacher came in and announced that we can take AP Physics next year. She said that those who want to major in the medical field should take it. I'm thinking. What does Physics have to do with Medical field? Well yeah, I would really like to be a doctor, don't know specifically what, but probably a family doctor or a pharmacist. Anyways, should I take AP Physics even though I dislike Physics? I don't hate it, but I just dislike it. Many of my friend told me to take it, since I'm a 3.5+ GPA student taking Algebra 2 and Spanish 2 as a freshmen. I mean, I really want to think for my future, and yes AP Physics would be my first AP class since I am a freshmen this year. So... Basil... What do you guys think?
reap : you have to memorize like 50 equations
OK, this is untrue. I'd say you have to memorize like 10 maximum. Lots and lots of the "50 equations" can be derived from F=ma, conservation of energy, and other simpler equations. Sometimes it's good to memorize equations but you really learn the material better if you know where the equations you're learning come from. To the TS: First off, if my advice eventually helps you come to a decision that's wonderful. I'd talk to your counselor and parents first though. As for an alternative: Have you taken chemistry or biology yet? I don't like them since I can't memorize content for my life... the only thing I'm good at in Bio is dissecting things. But you may like those classes. You should consider them.

if you want to.. but AP physics will not help you whatsoever in medical. Anyways, how can you decide that you want to take medical when your only freshman? times change my friend and you can change your mind. lemme guess, your asian and your parents want you to become a doctor, so you do all of this bull for your transcript to get into a "prestigious" university in the united states? im guessing you don't even care about medical field and just are doing it for the 400k per year. Also, the university, the grades only gets you the interview, not the job. You need to be a well rounded person, who is practical with real life situations, not just some scholastic nerd, (don't give me that I'm working for the community bull****, its just for your transcript, I know). IMO if you dont like something, dont take it. Only take regular physics if your university requires it to get accepted. But make sure to keep your options open because you never know what path you will take in life. Try not to focus in too much so early in your life, people make mistakes that way.

SADLY, there is no AP BIO in our school. -SIGH- Fail . ( Not sure about AP Chem) I would LOVE to take AP BIO. I am a freshmen this year, and I am taking Physics (H). I think I am going to enjoy Bio and Chem. I don't find memorizing interesting (imo) hard. But Physics, I have a B, while my other classes I have an A. I guess it's hard to learn something that you don't enjoy? ;; Well and also my teacher for Physics is one of the best teacher out there but is really TOUGH and harsh on grading test. Maybe why I have a B. EDIT: ^^ Person on top of me, Yes I am asian. But my parents did not "force" me into liking and becoming a doctor. I chose to be a doctor, because I personally think it's nice you are trying your very best to help ones that need help. And it's just what I think I'd like to be. Let me tell you this, Even if a doctor did not give as much money as it actually does, I'd still be a doctor; I am not that type of person that cares only for the money. I mean the money is nice and all, but I think it's good to choose something you enjoy doing ( career) for the rest of your life instead of doing something you totally have no interest in even with a high pay, for the rest of your life. Also, that's just what the AP Physics teacher said, " Ap Physics is really helpful if you want to major in the medical field."

In college, you need physics for ANY science major. So yes.

Everyone hates ap physics here. Class is ridiculously hard even for people that have AP Cal/ AP Stats.

ask others - is the teacher good? if not, DONT TAKE IT! and many colleges prefer that you take their physics course instead, while they accept calc and chem and stuff
reap : you have to memorize like 50 equations
but you're given an equations and constants sheet for the AP Exam (Although there ARE some equations that AREN'T on it. the ones on the sheet are fairly basic)
xpedia : EDIT: To the guy who's taking 4 AP classes and anybody else who is doing something like that: I don't understand how you could possibly be taking 4 college level classes in high school along with others and doing the coursework well for all of them. Unless your school/classes are somehow "diluted" in that "Advanced Placement" classes are not really taught at a college level (which I can understand because schools are sometimes ranked by number of AP courses offered) it just makes no sense. You can say, "well I'm a smart kid so I can handle all college courses along with all my other classes" but I just don't believe it. Going to college is (or at least should be) a full time job. You shouldn't have the class time to take 4 of them in High School.
I think our school is pretty "diluted" because I'm currently in 5 (6 total, since two of them are semester-courses) and I've been handling it pretty well (although one is AP studio art, so to me, it's not much of an AP class). however, the real thing is whether or not you perform well on the AP exams. I guess some schools can just "teach the exam" and thus wouldn't be much of a college-level course? OT: I'm taking AP phys B and I hate it 8D actually, I think it's because my teacher doesn't teach, and I really don't like reading the book (I didn't read our AP bio book, but at least the teacher taught.) it seems like you've made up your mind already though? I really don't know how physics is related to med either ):?

If you're not interested in it, don't do it. I'm taking AP Bio and APUSH next year, becuase I like Bio and History. However I could have taken Analysis Honors Math, but even though I like math I don't like it that much to want to invest all that time. Balance the things you like with the time you want free.

But either way, I doubt I am going to take AP Physics. I mean, I shouldn't take something I dislike right? Even if the teacher is the best in the world.

I want to be a doctor and I might not take AP Chem OR AP Physics before I graduate, but it's not like colleges will say "oh he only took AP BIO HELL NEVER BE A DOCTOR!" Lol, just take what you like and excel in those classes and enjoy high school while you still can. The stress is not worth it, trust me.

I am NOT taking AP PHYSICS. Maybe I should just cool down a little and not stress over it (: Thanks so much everyone for your inputs. I really APPRECIATE IT :D Kay. I'm going to sleep. I have work at 7 tomorrow. Lol.

It IS hard. But then again I'm involved in everything so I have little time to memorize all the necessary equations. If you think you can do it, go for it!

If you're good at math and deducing skills, this class shouldn't be too hard for you. I pulled an A very easily this first semester, and probably going to get an A in the second semester as well. Hope that helps. And also, if you're going to declare your major as pre-health for college, it'll definitely look better if you pass AP Physics with an A along with getting a 5 on the exam. If you're taking it solely to skip your physics courses in college, don't even bother. They'll make you take the class irregardless if you sign up for pre-health because physics is a required class. Passing the exam only lets you "skip" the class if say, you were going to major journalism or some non-science field.
