| Hello Basilers! I want to make a quick review because about a month ago, I posted a thread saying that I will be getting an iMac soon. Three weeks ago it came and I got it with the Core i7 2.8 GHz configuration with 8GB of DDR3 1067Mhz RAM and an ATI 4850 512MB Graphics Card. Here is the Review on the 27" Apple iMac (My version): 1) Screen The screen is gorgeous! It features a 2560x1440 resolution which is in high-end 30" monitors. All the colors are great with the 16:9 aspect ratio. The screen is LED so it has that great color scheme that the Cinema Displays offer. 2) Processor The Core i7 2.8 GHz is a great match for this machine. It features 4x Cores, with the 8-Core hyperthreading option. You can edit/ render videos on this thing in a snap and web browsing is great too. There is a lot of power to offer for high-end users. 3) RAM It starts with 4GB of 1067MHz RAM which is a nice combination, but I decided to step it up a little bit to futureproof my system. You can always add RAM by buying some from a third-party dealer, but I just thought that 8GB would be nice for now since I will be doing some intense video editing and etc. 4) Video Card Wow, Apple really hit it off this time. The Radeon 4850 with 512MB of Video Ram is a great card. Sure, the 5-Series ATI are newer and cheaper, but this card is great too. I ran Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 on Windows 7 Bootcamp with Max settings @ 2560x1440 res and still got 40-90 FPS. The graphics are rich and smooth on the LED display and everything runs so fast! 5) Screen The 27" screen is huge. If you have a big enough desk area, go for it. But for more home users just wanting to get a taste of Mac OSX, by web browsing, using Garageband, iPhoto, iMovie...the 21.5" will do the same. For more high end users who require a much larger screen area, the 27" is perfect for that. Video editing on it is great, I can see everything from a far distance too. 6) Price A lot of people are reluctant to buy a Mac because of their big price tags. I can tell you that they're not cheap, but Macs are so different from PCs. There are a lot of different programs that Mac OSX can offer, like Final Cut and iPhoto and everything that home / professional users crave. But it all depends on people's taste. If they have been used to using PCs in a school / work enviornment and have been using one at home, it's more likely that they will go for PC. But I had a PC for a while and I've been wanting to try Apple out, and so far, the switch has been great. I'm not a fanboy of anything really, it's just a little change can be for the good So basically, that sums it up. I just thought about making this quickie review for any tech-heads out there that want to know a true non-fanboy's opinion. If you have any questions, feel free to ask them (about OSX, etc).
