I'm not sure if this has been addressed before, but lately (well since the last patch) Maplestory has been generally choppy(occasional lag spikes, however not fatal to play the game). And today I happened to open task manager, while MS was running and I found out that Maplestory consumes roughly 350,000K of memory... I;m pretty sure it used to be 100-200 range, since when did Maplestory consume so much memory? and my main question would be: Is this .. normal? and if not would it be the reason it;s been really choppy?

I started maplestory agian, it was slower than usual. I remember back in v6x it use to be real smooth and lag-free. Mine takes about 250k-300k, not sure.

Ah kay, hmm. Well only my Aussie friends have been complaining about choppy in-game experiences. Could be to do with the communication distances... zzz

Depending on where you are at, MS will fluctuate around 200MB-512MB of RAM Usage. It had been this way ever since I still play last year - before that even. Also, a connection lag wouldn't give you choppy FPS. This is cause by your computer.

But... I have 4gb of memory.... and Nexon recommends you to have 256mb of memory to play Maplestory. If it exceeds it then.. wouldn't they have to edit their page >__>;(on recommended settings). I might just be a little fussy, but when I use Genesis it used to be smooth(before the patch). Ever since the patch, 1 out of 5 Genesis will give me a very short spike. (And FYI if Video card memory is an issue.. i have 512mb of that...)

Just so you know windowed mode will always consume more RAM usage than full screen

[/quote] It also set the minimum HDD space at 1.5GB, when the game is 1.93GB. 3GB recommended spaced, despite the fact that you need approximately 6GB to even INSTALL MS. So the recommendation is very outdated (apparently, they just added the RAM requirement. Wasn't there before). Also, when sites put that recommended spec up, it the specs needed to play, period - not play without lag. xD Since you have 4GB, RAM isn't your problem. Anyways, vRAM doesn't really tell us your graphic card performance, btw, but this is MS so forget about your specs for now (unless you have an IGP like the 6150SE which take up of 512MB of shared memory). May I ask when you say you are getting lag spikes, you mean everything is getting delay (attacks, using potions (takes 3 seconds to work), a few second to enter a new map, etc)? Then yes, that's a connection lag. But if you mean choppy where your FPS rate is dropping below 20 and your whole screen is looking like a slideshow, then it's your computer. |

I'm just being really.. fussy. I get the "slideshow" types of lag for like 1 tenth of a second while using Genesis(Used to be fine). That's about it. :P So I'll just not care about it and deal with it f3.

It's the same for me..It takes up around 350k memory and skyrockets my CPU usage to constantly almost 100% sometimes..

Nexon doesn't care enough about this game to hire anyone whose job is making sure things are consistent, such as keeping the web page updated to reflect the current requirements, updating the "FAQ" pages, or even making sure the gender of NPCs stays the same from moment to moment. You just have consider it part of the "charm" the "oriental flavor" of the game, I guess. My game experience has been getting lag spikes too, about every 10 seconds. It's not all that bad except when it coincides with trying to jump, then it usually lands me in real trouble. I can't tell for certain what's doing it, but it might be ZoneAlarm accessing the hard drive for some unknown reason. I also just installed AVG 9.0, so I'm expecting some anomalies from that until I learn what processes are safe to kill.
