So, on the summer break, my mom is going to purchase me an Iphone since she thinks it's all hip and sh/t. But now I'm thinking of telling her not to bother buying it since it's so damn expensive. Although, the Iphone could be worth its price, but I have no idea whatsoever what the hell it could do. So do any one of you Iphone owners mind giving me a brief explanation of the Iphone's capabilities and any useful apps it has?ing. A quick review is nice too. Edit: Oyeah, I have an Ipod classic 80gb, too. So, the music part of the Iphone doesn't really matter besides the point it's more convenient to have all in one machine.

Well, I don't have time to make a run down of all the things I use it for but I would say it's completely worth it. I got mine last summer and it's just so useful in everyday life for me, plus it's convenient for music and texting etc.

It's very worth it IMO. Video camera, regular camera, good-looking, well-working touchscreen. Not to mention the several amount of free apps available in the app store that you can download. You pretty much never get bored. Also, texting is organized so that you can save texts as their own conversations. I recommend getting it. I got mine in november, and I just can't let go of it.

I got mine for christmas and i have to say that the iphone is so worth the money as long as you jailbreak it or otherwise its just a meh phone :/

I'm too much of a pansy risking it.

If you do wait for the one in June, you won't be able to jailbreak it for a while, but I guess that's fine...It's still useful without jailbreaking for a bit.

[/quote] Don't bother, you can't jailbreak the iPhone 3GS anyway. By the way if you're going to get it in the summer, the new iPhone might be out by then http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/17/iphone-4g-is-this-it/ it's rumored to have 80gb. I've got the iPhone 3GS, not jail broken, and it's the best phone I've ever owned. I did have it jailbroken before and it was awesome, but I really don't miss it at all. And really, it's not that expensive for what you get.

iPhone OS4 can even multitask (something every other smartphone has been able to do since they launched), but it still has limited functionalities due to no flash support and Apple not allowing the use of any other browsers apart from Safari. The iPhone is a fashion gadget. Most people only buy it to play games on it and because it has a fancy touchscreen. Smartphones in general require a data package. You don't have to have one, but I see no point in getting a smartphone if you're only going to use it around an area with wifi. Last time I checked (correct me if this has changed) the iPhone only comes in packages with a ridiculous price, whereas I'm paying a reasonable 9,99� for my Nokia 5800 and 9,99� for unlimited use of mobile broadband.
