Why do most Asian kids these days care so much about their race?

Their race? i mean, i see threads all the time on basil of kids complaining about how much it sucks to be viet chinese etc etc... i mean wow really? what does your race have to do with anything? they're just promoting even worse stereotypes by doing this. i mean. im itallian, does that mean im gonna go be some big crime boss? no like, does their herritage and what their ancestors have done really mean that much to them? or are they just being attention whores? i just dont get it... Please discuss

I have to be proud of being asian or else my parents beat me! XD No but seriously its a sense of what you see in a race, either you just see your race as a classification of where your 'roots' are, or weather you see it as a pro/con situation such as where people instantly come to you for help because they think your smart cuz ur asian or you drive unsatisfactorily cuz your asian (stereotypes XD) but me personaly, im proud to be asian because its where i come from, where my parents come from and generations before them (unless im missing something). People say im like this because im simply proud of being me so i suppose some 'asians' may have issues with self loving (cant think up of a word o.0) which may then lead to accusing that their problems are due to what ethnicity they are. (if i unknowingly added something idiotic in this post i'll still be proud of being 'asian' XD)

A lot of asian's feel like they're a minority in North america so they feel it is important to be proud of their culture and where they came from. Especially for some kids on maple who perhaps go to a school where they don't have many asian peers it feels nice for them to find people they can identify with.

I don't think anything of my Asian-ness. I don't really know many other Asians in real life that aren't my family, so sometimes... I forget? haha It's not really a big deal to me. I just feel like everyone else. I don't take offense easily either, so I don't care about stereotypes and stuff.

@ omgchocolate well my thoughts on why 'asian pride' is less... looked down apon than 'white pride' is that it wouldnt be the first time 'white pride' led to... drastic situations. im not saying that 'asian pride' hasnt lead to drastic situations but the ones caused by 'white pride' seem to be more memorable than those of 'asian pride' at least for me... (dun hate me for being uninteligable on historical ideas... and im still proud to be asian XD)
