Hello dear maplers, I've been wondering something about the venom skill. Now with these monsters with high amounts of hp wouldnt venom be awesome? If im correct it cuts out a % of hp each second and can be build up 3 times to increase this %. so if a monster had like 10 mil hp just like the new monsters of neo tokyo and this % would be 10% wouldnt venom do like 1 mil each second? Or does venom work totaly different? wouldt venom first rock as instead of boomerang stab? with these monsters now out? Thank you

Actually, I think it means you get 3 tries to poison the monster. It's actually only effective on things that take you several hits to kill. It's been useful for me as of recently for himing. Once you start using B-Step, it becomes obsolete. The usual combo for Shads is B-Step->Taunt->B-Step. The venom gets like 2 seconds to work? Question for shads: How do I get taunt?

Taunt is from El Nath Pq. Better find a warrior friend that is currently Stance-less.

Venom does damage by damage percentage, not a percentage of the enemies HP. Also, the Neo City Imperial Guards are immune to poison. Pay no mind to the first poster; Venom is not "obsolete once you start using B-Step". If anything, it's better. An example of the different Venom stages: I use Assaulter on a Skelegon, and it gets poisoned. Takes around 3400 poison damage per second. Lovely. I run off and leave it, and come back to it later. Hit it again, Venom activates again, continues taking 3400 for a few more seconds. Another Skelegon, this time I'll use Savage Blow, because more hits = higher Venom activation. Using Savage Blow has activated my Venom twice. The Skelegon is now taking around 7000 poison damage per second. Snazzy. When the poison wears off, if I can poison it again, it'll take only 3400-ish again unless Venom is activated a second/third time. Basically, Venom stacks. It's not hard to use a Savage Blow or two on a Chief Oblivion Guardian and watch it take stack3 Venom damage. So you've got two Venom levels; one is the skill level, the other is the stack level. Maximum Venom stack is always 3; the chance, duration, and damage increases with extra skill levels put into it. (damage increases significantly with every point; 3 stacks means 3 times more damage) It's not something you'll rush to put points in, but even at low levels it's definetly handy, even without the skill update having it work with Band of Thieves. A bit of a waste at higher levels, because there are more important skills to put points into first. Nevertheless, again, with the skill update, it'll make mobbing enemies a whole lot faster. Also, fun fact; Taunt only increases the weapon defense on enemies, not the magic defense. This means Venom still does full damage on Taunted targets. And as mentioned above, get Taunt by partying a Warrior and joining them in the Power Stance quest.

I don't know about Shadowers, but for Night Lords it can do up to 30k damage a second if you hit a monster with triple throw. Maxed Venom of course.

[/quote] yea you pretty much brought it all =O cept for the damage formula @_@ but here it is: MIN (8.0 * [STR + LUK] + DEX * 2) / 100 * BA MAX (18.5 * (STR + LUK) + DEX * 2) / 100 * BA BA stands for Base Attack [each skill level of venom increases the BA, starting at lvl 1 with 31 BA, and when maxed venom has a BA of 60 at level 30] for example, my stats are as follows: STR 80 DEX 152 LUK 735 BA 31 [level 1 venom] my damage with venom should be about 2115~5698, and since venom can stack up to 3 times on one monster my complete damage range with venom should be 2115~17094. oh and since venom activates about twice per second, and at level 1 it stays active for 2 seconds, i should be passively dealing between 8460~68376, nearly enough to take out a skelegon with only 1 Savage Blow. not too bad for a passive skill ehh? :P credits to JoeTang of south perry btw.

on my NL i have venom, with it i 2 shot skele and newts, w.o it i 2 shot skele and newts, same with temple venom is a good skill for NL's that maybe 6 shot with like 150 base dex and unscrolled claw although it is very useful for avengering in temple cuz avenger is very weak

It's actually a little LESS effective for Nightlords, since, surprise surprise, their best attacking skill is TT, which is a 1v1 attack (odds are the enemy will be dead after 6 stars hit, otherwise it's mostly followed up by 6 more stars anyway, surpassing Venom's output). Apart from Skeles/Newts, using Avenger to try and set off a Venom on a mob of high level enemies genrally isn't a good idea. But then, Nightlords get earlier Maple Warrior to compensate. Also, can't remember if Shadowers have a higher activation rate at higher levels..? Maybe that was with the balance patch. Or maybe I'm thinking of something else entirely.

I believe everyone gets higher rates of Venom after the patch. It's just Fake that the higher rates apply to Shadowers. Basically after the patch Nightlords get nothing and Shadowers get everything for thieves.

You'd think they'd do something about the uselessness of Ninja Ambush..

Venom is VERY useful for NL's acctually. It's useful when it takes you 4~5 hits to kill something because by the time you have hit it 4 times or even 3 poison will have taken away the amount the 4th/5th hit is worth. Another time it is very helpful is when you are on the threshold of hits. Say your killing a skele in 3 hits 100% but the last star is doing anywhere between 5~15K to finish it, but a lot of damage is wasted. With max venom, you have a 30% chance to poison the skele PER STAR. So Venom the first star has a 30% chance, then the second then the third, & your throwing 6 stars, If you count both hits your throwing 12 stars. This gives you a very high chance of poisoning the Skele and a good chance that it will stack. meaning that 50% or more of the time you are hunting you will be 2 hitting instead of 3 hitting. Less hits means faster kills, faster kills means more EXP over time, more EXP over time means faster levelling. Ergo, Venom is helpful. this also works with any threshold. Obviously the less hits it takes you to kill, for instants your on the 100% 2 hit threshold of 5~15K finisher, the lower the percentage of lower hit kills. Although, even the chance of poisoning the Skele with 1 attack is pretty high if you ask me, so you still have a decent chance of 1hitting instead of 2 hitting. leading to more EXP over time/ Level ups. Even at my level, with level 1 venom I find it very useful when I'm grinding at Newties, especially for poisoning the Newties while I finish off a nest golem.
