| So I was sailing along on my I/L wizard when my friend told me about the balance patch and how F/P's will have more matk on their ultimate and thus be stronger. I then asked him, "what's the point of I/L anymore then?" He couldn't really say much except their ability to freeze (which seems kinda pointless because if you can 1hko everything why do you need to freeze it). Anyways, what are some things that I/L do better than F/P mages? |

| Rush-style training. Especially in Temple of Time, Fps usually resort to poisoning their targets which does rather low base damage and is based upon percents. I/l have quick, hard hitting mob skills (chain / ice demon / ifrit combo) which allows the mage to rush around the map, attacking and killing any mob in sight. on the other hand, fps resort to a more gurella-like warfare (mist / run / fire demon or paralyze for finisher). All in all, their play style is very different; making them both unique classes in their own way. *EDIT* Forgot to mention, chain lightning's ability to hit mobs at a fast rate outperforms paralyze's high damage on a single target. Paralyze has the advantage on 1v1, Chain lightening has the advantage on mobs. |

| > implying damage is the only factor that defines usefulness You need to ask for a "valid reason"? Play a character because you want to and you find it enjoyable. In the end all classes press combinations of keys to kill enemies. |

| The ability to freeze is pointless when you can 1Hko every monster. However, before you can 1Hko every monster, freeze is very useful. You won't be able to 1Hko every monster(not in Temple of Time) until after lvl 140, if you are heavily funded, and after Balance Patch. Temple of Time monsters can't be 1Hko until much later and/or at a much higher cost for funding. Most players don't reach 1Hko everything, outside of Temple of Time. Ot: Different jobs are good in their own ways. Since you asked: As stated already, I/l are cheaper. Ice E.weapons are cheaper and easier to obtain than fire E.weapons. I/l can freeze monsters in 2nd Job and 3rd Job. F/p can't stun until 4th Job. Currently, I/l can mob well in 2nd and 3rd Job while F/p can't until 4th Job. I/l have versatility and change in training. F/p should poison from lvl 50-120 and only on two monsters. I/l can earn Mesos in 2nd and 3rd Job if they train efficiently. F/p burn through pots from poison training. I/l are usually considered to be fun for a while. F/p are more likely to be considered to be boring since training is so monotonous. I/l can train at Harps efficiently and early on. F/p can't train at Harps until much later on since Red Harps are fire strong. Ice + Lightning elements > Fire + Poison elements. Poison isn't an "element" that many people are fond of. |

Poison brace is kind of a quasi-mob attack, where it can be used to poison a whole map, rendering the monsters with 1hp. 2.Why would fps only poison two monsters? We can kill almost any monster in the game at 70 or so. Unless you mean twisted jesters and skeles, but those are just the fastest training grounds. I have found myself at stormbreakers, firebrands, practically every monster in maple for a time. 3. Seems more like an opinion. Not that opinions are bad. 4. Why would we ever train at harps, when we can be killing skeles, ToT monsters, or the like while usong less potions? 5. Another opinion. |

F/p can not mob well, not even in training with Mist. Misting isn't good for mobbing, it is slow and has a smaller range than Ice Strike. Poison Brace being a "quasi-mob" is not an actual "mob" skill. Being able to lower all monsters' Hp to 1 =/= mobbing well. Explosion currently is horrible for mobbing since it is way slower and bad range. 2. You answered your own question. It is the best exp. Training elsewhere is illogical unless you are broke and have no Mesos for pots. Why else would you purposedly choose somewhere else? 3. That is the whole point. Majority opinion > minority opinion. 4. I was directing that part at 4th Job with ultimates. No one besides 4th Job Magicians train there. All the monsters you mentioned, an I/l can train at too, in 4th Job. F/p spend more on pots than I/l, supposedly. I/l make Mesos at most of the training spots that are good. Gallops is a gold mine from lvl 85-120. F/p only seem to lose Mesos unless they get lucky. Skeles makes you broke from lvl 80-120. 5. Same as #3. Poison isn't even a real element. That is why I put the quotations. Ot: Hope my posts helped. |

[/quote] [1] freezing monsters is essential to save mesos on pots, until u reach the point when u can 1hko those lvl 124+ monsters @ToT, which is when u reach 200 with regular luk, or 185 with lukless mage, or 155+ with a funded luklessmage, so until u reach this level, the freezing point is valid and cannot be just ignored cuz u said so [2] ice lightening mages @ most jobs (2nd, 3rd and 4th) can mob in all directions, behind, above, below etc, after the patch f/p will only be able to mob monsters in front only. [3] chain lightening maxed @ mobs @ tot is just awesome, especially on those idiotic ice based monsters where u cant freeze and hit low, i don't know about paralyze with f/p, but i doubt they can gain such huge range from CL coming out from a monster hitting the 5 monsters lined up behind him exceeding 1.5 screen range. [4] why are ppl not considering the FUN part of this game anymore? i/l is fun, played with f/p on a friends account, was .. eh, outa my taste [5] mob control @ boss runs [6] efficient at solo training, u train alone with no supporters easily, u got seal, u can freeze, i discovered that when i did 3 quests of that 999 quests in the temple of time, using only 1200 pots and not having to go back to a village or get help from anyone else. [7] i'd take freezing monsters over high damage ultimate any day, also, more maps supporting i/l will come out with the patch, so, that's not a concern i guess that's it i guess, and i am sure many other guys have their reasons as well when they are making i/l |

| Whenever we have these discussions about damage I feel compelled to remind people that the only damage that really matters, imho, is #HKO. If I can do 90K damage and I need 150K damage to 1HKO then I'm 2HKO for that monster. If you increase my damage to 120K (33% increase), I'm still 2HKO for that monster. I suspect that once the patch arrives, everyone will be disappointed by the increase in damage. The increase in damage will no doubt be there, but the increase in killing power will be negligible or non-existent for most. |
