Anyone help please?

Okay, I got a 2.4 GPA and my parents are very mad at me. If I got a 3.5 GPA next semester, I know I might because I am trying very very hard. Will a 3.5 gpa, help me get into college? I am taking 2 honors classes currently. English and History. I am 9th grade. More INfo, I'll be in AP History next year (Human Geographies) and I'll be in English AP Junior year. Will this help me get into a nice college? Will they excuse my 2.4 gpa because of these classes? I really do not want to be screwed. And if I got a 3 GPA+ for the remaining years here in high school. I really want to get into UC-Irvine.

Just focus while you study. My Chinese teacher gave us a pop quiz today over 43 NEW terms that she introduced in the beginning of class. Characters and all. We had 30 minutes to memorize them, and with really focusing I got to 28. Apparently I did the worst in the class (thank god it wasn't graded), and others got in the high 30s. I probably could have if I didn't study what I knew so much :/

Some colleges tend to look for improvement. I think if you try harder and get about a 3 and above GPA, colleges might excuse the 2.4 GPA for the 1st semester. Since you have honors classes, colleges might add that to the table. A lot of colleges love people who are in AP classes.

Your only a freshman..its mainly junior and sophomore year that colleges look at, like the others said just improve stop having a little heart attack

Yes, a 3.5 gpa would help a lot. o_o At my school, you can't get into advanced classes if your current grades suck. Colleges will probably not excuse your 2.4 gpa because of AP classes. either way, get yo grades up.

What is the minimum GPA I should have usually.

AP's help if you do well in them and helps a bit more if you do well on the AP exams. But remember that GPA's and test scores are only part of the equation. Things such as extracurriculars, volunteer work, and things like that are things that can really get the attention of colleges too. xD

I was late this year so I couldn't get in. I'm not sure about sports though. I'm not an active person. (PS: I don't play Maple, and i havent in over 3 years)

A 3+ gpa each semester will help your college outlook. Just study hard, and try your best! AP classes do help, but they aren't the cure. It's better to take classes in your ability range and get good grades than to take a bunch of AP classes and get bad grades. Honestly, colleges look at 1) If you pass their requirements for admission. 2)Your ACT/SAT scores. 3) your GPA and transcript from the last two years of highschool 4) The Variety of different classes you took 5) Your transcript as a whole. I have a friend who bombed his freshman and sophmore year of high school, but shaped up for his last two years and ended with a 3.5 semester. He got a scholarship based on his improvement in grades for his first semester of college. Don't worry too much. Just buckle down and try hard.

[/quote] thank you so much. i thought i was screwed for life. after getting an F in Spanish, I kept on going without dropping. My Classes are Period 1 Algebra 1 ; A Period 2 English Honors ; B Period 3 PE ; A Period 4 Biology ; B Period 5 History Honors ; C Period 6 Spanish 1 ; F I had a 2.4 GPA after they took it and did something with it. 2.67 academically.

So just join the ones that you enjoy and/or can do well. xD

Mk, I will have at least a 3 GPA by the end of this semester. i'll try to get a 3.5 but personally, i don't think i can. 3* at least. I will be taking AP Human Geo next year so that will add 1 point to my GPA, no?

just keep working hard in your classes. ^^ like Spanish, you might need to get some extra help. if you improve in the other 3 years and do volunteer and extracurricular work, you'll be good. :D

FTR.. College don't care if you take AP Classes. It just shows that you can work hard. But college do care about how well you do in your classes as a whole.. Honors or not honors.. because if they see that you got an A- in your Honors class.. and a C+ in your other academic class, they'll think that you're only limiting your knowledge and they don't like that.
