Ridiculous ways to save money?

Okay, so I need to make a mockumentary for school and my idea is to focus on a family who lives to save money. I don't really know how I can do this, so could you please think of some examples where you can save money that are a bit ridiculous?

Just go observe a Chinese family haha. I can think of a few. 1). Handing down socks from one generation to the next. 2). Self-made dental floss. 3). Used newspapers as paper towels... 4). Live on a futon, forever.
