Does she like me? (I'm being serious)

Well, there's this girl whose one of the more popular girls in my grade. I met her exactly 1 year ago, in 8th grade, January. We were assigned the same group for a project, and it took us about ~15 hours. I made so many retarded jokes and side comments, and she was laughing so hard. Well, I'm too shy to talk to her for a long time or anything, and so time passed. Now I'm a freshman, and she sits next to me in one of my classes. She has a few nicknames for me, like Chrissy (which no one except 1 elementary school friend has called me before)(and my name is Chris), and Dilbert for some reason. I don't know if she likes me or not, because I'm not an uber popular person with LOTS of friends, but I have a quite a few close friends. Last year I was the crazy kind of person, but things happened over the summer and stuff, and now people mostly view me as moody with some unexpected crazy moments. Sometimes, I feel as if she's looking at me, because I can see her facing me from the corner of my eye. But I'm not sure, because I'm too shy to turn around and look back. And other times, when I pass her in the hallway, sometimes she says hi, but only after school (not during lunch or between classes) and when her friends aren't around. I'm so confused...because I like her because she's cute and smart and friendly, but I don't know how she feels about me. I don't know if she sorta likes me, views me as a friend, or not even that. BTW, the classes I take at school are all the higher level classes, but I don't think I'm a nerd or loser or anything, because I think I have a decent social life. I also participate in water polo and swimming at school, and after school, I have piano and I volunteer at the library. She also volunteers, but her shift is right after mine. I haven't got the guts to talk to her face to face about anything really meaningful. The most I can get to is to ask her what the homework is, then like one other thing, then I leave. Help please! EDIT: The point of this is not to get her as my girlfriend or anything. I just want to be able to talk to her comfortably without feeling awkward.

No need to completely crush me.. But yeah, crazy through an 8th graders point of view.. so not really. I did jump 20 feet and snap my arm once last year though. Thats always fun.
